Agreed, it is a beautiful place to ride and the trails are fun. Once you get a 1/4 mile from any trailhead, you pretty much only have to share the trail with other mountain bikers. Just get to a trailhead early and you will have no issues.

It should get gradually louder over time as the grease breaks down

I had a Forester XT with manual trans for ten years, from new. Loved it first … very quick, much better ride/handling/mpg than the 80 Series which it was supposed to replace, but didn’t replace for four more years. Surprisingly good off-road, up to a point. Downsides: mediocre mpg plus need for premium meant fuel cost was high. Lack of low range and ground clearance meant lots of clutch slipping when crawling on rough sections. Aftermarket skids helped avoid damage but didn’t make it an off-roader. Also, when something don’t fit inside, it goes on the roof or you’re not bringing it. MPG gets even worse. Had it ten years, not a single issue, but didn’t really bond with it and when the kids moved out, moved on to pickups, first a T100 and now my Taco. When shopping for a car for my wife 3 years ago, drove an Impreza; liked it. Drove a Golf; loved it and bought it.

Inspired by R4D4G4ST'S setup ive been playing around in Solidworks to make a bed rack that can mostly be made from parts list from McMaster, a Rocky Mounts Hotrod and some milled plates. Might jump up to the next size T-Slot frame.

Someone in another group posted: nowhere in that ad is a way to transport that bike, unless you folded down all the seats with zero friends.

I used to carry two bikes in the back of both our Forester and our Prius. And our daughter fits her CX bike in the back of her Beetle. With the lift gates closed. We don’t really need all that gear to haul bikes. Spoken as the owner of a truck, a van, a 1Up, a tailgate pad and various Yakima crap.

Ooooh! I do love me some packouts.

Yep! Did the same in my Xterra all through grad school because I didn't have money for a rack.

I just recieved my first rack ever, after 20 years of riding and racing, this week.

I spent years, with two other buddies, racing all over the country with a Ford Escort. Three bikes. A few sets of wheels. All of our shit. No rack. Spent a couple of years racing in Europe with one teammate and a tiny Peugeot. No rack.

Pretty sure that 4Runner can hold a few bikes and a few friends.
