Its a cable assisted DBW throttle body. And an absolutely shitty design IMO. If anything fails on it you have to buy a $700 throttle body.

If you have a wiring harness that runs directly behind the throttle cable it’s the BDW version.

ya thats what it is. Ya so Fresno T.A.P. Recyclers told me 250 for the throttlebody unit, they don't just do the TPS.

I went through all the 3rd gen 4runner forums and 1st gen tacoma forums and found where a guy just worked the gas pedal over 100 times with the truck off and ignition on. and it fixed the 03 taco tps sensor issue temporarily. so I did that and beat on it with a hammer and the truck is working again. the sensor is making a ton of noise though.
I also found a tps from aisin that works with the setup for $42 part# W0133-2744128

    Aisan® W0133-2744128-AIS - Throttle Position Sensor (carid.com)

from my experience you can just turn key to on and pump the pedal once, Then off, then crank. Should work the same way.

They all make noise it’s normal for that throttle body.

LAST POST NOT ON SUPERCHARGER TOPIC SORRY GUYS.

Mine never made noise like it does now. it whines like the supercharger does. It never stopped it from starting and revving in neutral. It just stops working while underload and always around 20 mph. It like cuts throttle for 3 seconds but if I keep my foot buried on the gas it wakes up and drives normal at higher speeds. I'll get it fixed as soon as I find a company that will send the correct parts.. Geek Parts sent me a part for a camry and won't send the other until they recieve this part back, and also won't reimburse me for $35 on the 2 day shipping even though THEY shipped the wrong part. don't order from them. Its been a bad experience.....

spectre 3" MAF intake replacement section arrived today to replace the stock 2.5" MAF section.

Doing a test fit, The new haltech ECU that's on order doesn't use a MAF sensor.
Larger intake should = to a little more power.
Hopefully getting it all tuned and installed in 4 weeks

I think we need to find a throttle body that is bigger or a way to port ours. Doug and Andy at www.MotionRaceworks.com makes/ can make specialty parts like this. The owner is super cool. I bet they would cnc a few for us if we got a few people together

Not with your 03 you won’t. You could probably easily get one that will work with the 95-02 but the 03-04 that uses the PPS calibrated to the TPS and the funky clutched electronic motor no other manufacturer uses.

If you’re manual though you could easily swap ECUs no problem, you’d have to wire in idle control motor as well. Then you could just swap in a early throttle body and possibly the early throttle cable if you needed to.

Speaking of which, I’ve been meaning to wire one in to my truck to see if the 04 ECU still uses those instructions in the ECU code. The wiring pin out is almost identical between the 02 and 03/04 so it wouldn’t be surprising if you could just wire in the idle control valve and it would work.

    Either way you lose cruise.

Actually @Milor , come to think of it I remember a while back a guy posted a picture of a 03/04 ECU in an earlier manual truck.

He was not really clear with what was going on and was only around long enough for a few posts but from what I gather it looked like he was running fine like that. Part of the reason I assume the 03/04 ECUs still have the idle control valve code going on is because of that lone post.

Does anyone know the torque spec for these two bolts circled in red? Both hold the S/C pulley bracket on. I was thinking around 32 ft lbs but wanted to check with you guys first. Doing the water pump and timing belt reassembly. 20180414_203223.jpg 20210704_145722.jpg

I used a little bit of blue lock tight on the allen head bolt that holds the bracket on like the write up suggested. Did you have a bad experience doing that?

No. I just don’t like the idea of using thread locker on a bolt in the head like that. Toyota does this with the exhaust studs but I trust that they know what they’re doing, its engineered and they’re using the right stuff for the job. All my studs came out without much issue.

Just sounds like a bad idea to me. Also, you can’t go by color as many people believe. I think the stuff Magnuson is red red. If you use the red stuff from one or more of the manufacturers it’s high strength and the only way it’s meant to be broken is with 300 degrees of heat. There a guy out there somewhere that used the red permanent stuff and had a bad day when he needed to get to the thermostat.

I know what you mean. I have it pretty well back together or I would reconsider taking the bolt out. And I dont want to retorque into the aluminum head if I can help it. If I put red lock tight I would be taking it out for sure. I will just roll the dice and see in about 100K miles. Thanks for your advice.

I’ve taken those two bolts off a dozen times between supercharger rebuilds and timing belt maintenance over the last 668,000 miles 23 years.
Never had one come loose or issues with treads and I don’t use any locking adhesive.
