Does your truck have an intake thru the passenger side fender?

If so, then you already have a CAI.

You won't gain much except a lighter wallet.

not sure about the 1st gen (best gen?) but on my 2015 tacoma i put on a AFE stage 2 intake and i noticed no noticeable power, even though AFE claims 25WHP increase. All i noticed was the intake got very loud. After about a week i took the intake off because going up hills was getting annoying since the engine would be super loud now with the intake.
wife was happy to go back to stock as well.

The stock one is already cold air....and works very well. There's little room for improvement. Air filter choice is important though. I don't recommend K&N or any other oiled filter, MAFs don't like the oil. Just use a quality paper filter and change it with oil changes.

The best cold air intake is a snorkel, or an actual intercooler.

All these "cold air intakes" literally just suck in hot air from INSIDE the engine compartment. They do make a bunch of noise, so that's cool.

The neat set up would be to run incoming air through a heat exchanger cooled by liquid nitrogen one would need to do that math to figure out the best incoming air temperature .

That would indeed be a Cold Air Intake the way i look at the concept

Too cold and the fuel won't atomize properly and disperse for good combustion.

This is why the fuel/air ratio is enriched with fuel below 32F.......think about it.

Not a clue what you mean!!

Maybe doing the Math to figure out the best intake air temperature is beyond your math skills at present.

I was going to go with K&N a while ago, only because I found a guy wanting to trade for my stock intake PLUS he’s willing to throw in cash on his end. This made me a little suspicious, and after some research, I learned these 1st gens are sensitive when it comes w/ K&N filters. At least the oiling part of it, I guess it becomes problematic with the MAF. After learning this, I backed out and told the seller why, he confirmed that it was indeed problematic and a huge waste of money. I plan on doing the deck lid mod and intake silencer delete, it’s budget friendly and from what I’ve been reading, just as good, if not better than a cold air intake.

    Nice try.........

Do you have the skills to determine the correct stoichometry?????

The entire purpose of the CAI is to cool the air so the air becomes more DENSE to effectively pack more O2 into the combustion chamber.

A few degrees of temperature reduction does not significantly impact the air density.

Keep your dream of CAI and performance gains.....in reality.....its all Butt Dyno and mythconceptions.

That would freeze the moisture in the air. So.... Ice injection?

Better to just have direct oxygen injection from a tank. Then you'd need a high density fuel to match, so let's say methane.

A few mods here and there are you're good to go:

I freely admit I have had a K&N intake on for about 5 years now. It was one of my first mini projects to the truck; I knew next to nothing back then. Arguably I still know diddly squat but the truck functions better than I do, despite my incessant tinkering. The heat shield for the K&N itself has since become a mounting place for my oil catch can on the engine side of the shield, and my external trans oil filter on the inside/"cool"er side. Yeah yeah... ;)

Butt dyno reports back massive HP gains. But seriously, I guess I'm fortunate because it has never given me any issues, MAF related or otherwise. When I clean and oil the filter, I oil it appropriately and not in an overkill sense. I think that's when folks foul up their MAFs.
