Out of curiosity: was your '16 a short bed or long bed? Mileage?

I've got a deposit on a '21 and considering trading over private sale. The KBB on my '17 SR5 DCLB 4x4 w/ 89k has increased by just over 1k for trade in in the last four weeks. I've got 28k in mind that if the dealer beats or matches I'll happily eat the difference between that and what I could get privately selling in it's condition. Would save close to 1k in tax plus save the headache of dealing with tire kickers and spambots. The tax savings isn't a huge thing in the scheme of it but when that is added to the inflated prices of used Tacomas its hard not to just go trade-in route.

For those paying MSRP (I have a handshake on it for mine), did/were you able to negotiate any on doc fees or dealer add-ons?

I am planning to go after the doc fee and see if I can't get them to hand me any combination of bed lights, mudguards & tailgate lettering inserts that I can throw on in the driveway. All small ticket items for sure but saves me some money and helps them complete a sale/build foundation for loyalty for very little off their bottom line.

Why not just keep driving whatever you’re driving than pay 5-6k more than when the trucks are back in stock? Is there really that much push for instant gratification? I have been interested in a Tacoma since January. Invoice price less incentives is all I am paying. That is roughly 10% off sticker. Don’t care if it takes waiting a year. I will just drive what I am driving till then. Too bad others don’t do the same

Waiting till inventory improves and not paying 5-6k extra is in the same league as Elon musk? I promise the same folks bragging about how much over sticker are likely the least financially able. It’s like every time i see a new Escalade I think, how many properties got bought in the last year, prolly none. Blow money on a depreciating asset. I buy new cars too but my assets make the payments

Lol you quoted me a split second before I edited my post. Anyway I think I am done trying to explain that people should spend their money however they want.

EDIT: P.S. The Elon Musk/mansion analogy remains the same for a middle class person buying a Tacoma, but the analogy simply gets scaled down.

If you're selling/trading in your last car at a higher price too.. then it doesn't matter as much. Everyone has their circumstances, and for us, we needed a reliable truck now, not a year from now.

I agree, it's basically wash. Yes you pay more, but your getting more for the trade-in. You can also sell privately and keep more as well for a better down payment.
The best option for those that have a second vehicle, would be to privately sell their truck now, bank the money and wait for the dust to settle before buying a new Tacoma. .

The market is absolutely crazy right now. I had to buy because I was using a loaner vehicle that was just about to break down itself

Buying pre-owned Tacoma didn’t make much sense considering I was seeing pre-owned 2017-2019’s with 80-150k miles for only 2-3k less than brand new ones

But actually FINDING a new Tacoma, now that was a hyper challenge. I didn’t notice the prices going up, the entry level V6 were around 33k and the TRD off roads were around 37+

I continued to be told that the truck sold before I could get down to the dealership over the weekend. I eventually had to drive 130 miles to a dealership multiple cities way to get a 2021 TRD off road 2WD AT V6, it was MSRP 37k, out the door seemed a bit high at 42k

    But wasn’t crazy inflation (yet…)

today I picked up my ORAC in Army Green, AT - paid MSRP as the lcoal incentives expired end of May - didn't get delivery in time ... But sales guy told me all TRD Tacomas are now selling at $ 5k mark-up plus mandatory add of 1500 worth of crud accessories - this at biggest denver area Toyota dealer. 90+% of their Tacomas have deposits on them before hitting lot. Craziness. Never thought I'd be happy about paying MSRP. btw - love the truck so far - aafterreadin TW for 3 months while waiting I was getting paranoid, but I've driven various trucks for 40 years, and this is the finest vehicle I've owned based on first (and admittedly quick) impressions.

"Leather" & sunroof come with the premium off road or premium sport packages. The base OR package includes bilstein shocks, locking rear diff, LED drl. If it's a 4x4 OR, multi-terrain select & crawl control. But in order to get leather or sunroof either TRD model is mandatory.

@Jjtacoblue highly unlikely at that price. The premium package is essentially a 5k one. I'd speculate @ns3v3n bought a DCSB OR with only the tech package as factory options. Play around with the toyota configurer webpage. Can "build" your specs and see MSRPs for various configurations. The cavate being: it will only allow you to build based on what Toyota allocates to your region.
