The STI values are absurd too! My Carvana appraisal for the STI is 1000$ more than I paid for it BRAND NEW! It has me thinking about doing 2 more track events then selling it while we have this crazy used car market. then wait for things to cool down and find a new toy!

I personally will "probably never" part with my Tacoma. There is no vehicle on the market or in the world I love more than my truck to be honest and with my hobbies its just perfect for me! Bought it new with 7 miles and did all mods myself I just have a major attachment to keeping it nice forever. Although she is starting to get up there in age but there just is not another truck I could see owning right now.

I do highly suggest a subaru though... but I will say, the STI is FAR from an economical car. The in-town mpg is worse than my truck. Highway mpg is ok but still basically the same as a new fullsize truck on premium (20ish)... What are you considering?

Coilovers, sway bars, wheels, tires, extended studs, intake, head and taillights, seats, short shifter,
Don't we all lol? It's the ultimate track scalpel and shockingly reliable/semi-attainable for what it is.

You aren’t kidding i was just watching a Youtuber who said Carvana offered him what he paid for his STI brand new two years ago, and it has 15,000 miles on it. Used car market is crazy weird right now. Although, dealers aren’t really taking much off MSRP these days, so I feel like if you’re buying trading on used to buy new it’s kind of a wash.

I was considering jumping ship to an STI, I always wanted one and dealers around me have marked them down around $3k off MSRP. but like you the Tacoma does everything I need it too, and I really do love my truck. In which case I think I’m just experiencing grass is greener syndrome. I would regret getting rid of the truck, but not sure how much I’d regret it when I’m listening to the ye olde tune of boxer rumble ;)

But you have my dream garage for what it’s worth. Maybe one day haha

The 2 vehicles compliment each other well! I love the STI and I think if you can get a deal on one there is virtually no money/minimal money to be lost. It is a very very fun car and definitely deceivingly "fast". If you do not have anything that goes in the bed, I would say go for it! I put hockey gear But one thing to note: wintertime. So I parked my car for most of the winter but the little winter driving i did even on the summer tires it felt unbelievable in the snow.... but being low to the ground, salt, gravel, rocks, etc definitely are not you paints friend. Also the STI is double a Tacoma to insure essentially if its your primary driver

Not to throw shade on my Tacoma, but my 2001 Dodge Cummins 2500 was my favorite vehicle I have ever owned. I have always been a truck lover, and a diesel freak. That Dodge was my first ever brand new vehicle, and I spend a few years and loads of $$$ to modify it to my all time dream truck. 440 HP and 826 lb/ft of torque was a hell of a ride. I even drag raced it a few times, with other local diesel truck forum friends, just for the fun of seeing how fast an 8000 pound truck could go. I achieved that, and loved every second in that truck. I sold it after 15 years when I was in dire financial circumstances, and still miss it terribly.

I likely will never be in financial position to modify another vehicle, there are a ton of things I would love to do to my Tacoma. But, it is an awesome truck, and I do enjoy the hell out of it.

Wife had a Mazda6 with manual 6 speed tx. Slickest manual I ever drove. While on the subject I am considering a gen 3 manual stick Taco as a replacement for my gen 2 manual Taco. Rare around here so will probably have to order without driving it. How do gen 3 shifting compare to gen 2?

HAH! Just picked one up as my DD. Has some TLC needs, but it runs well it has some get up.

I've been trying to do all the reading I can. That is one thing I haven't read about.

I have some TLC needed to be done. Air intake isn't piped to the fender like it's supposed to, battery isn't tied down, HAS to run on premium or it'll stall... etc.

Look up the issue when you get a chance. You will need red Loctite and possibly updated screws. The screws can loosen up and get sucked into the engine. My car was missing one screw when I took it apart to inspect it.

I’ve driven a lot of manuals over the years, but the most fun I’ve had rowing the gears is in my S197 Mustang GT. The trans is a TR-3650 5-speed.

The clutch and shifter are bone stock but I upgraded the control arms on the rear axle, so the car launches like a beast and stays planted (as planted as a live rear axle can be, anyway).

Best manual car I owned was my Porsche 997.2 Carrera S with a hardcore suspension. Just sold it a week ago.

That is a beautiful car. What year did you have?

Good time to sell enthusiast cars! I actually sold my 2020 STI a couple weeks ago for 3000$ more than I paid brand new even with tax with 5,000 miles a track day, HPDE, and 2 autox events....onto the next one!! Except the market is way way way high! I am P car hunting at the collapse for sure

2010. I just sold it for $8k more than I paid. I didn’t really want to sell, but I’d rather have a truck to get the most out of living in AZ.

My ‘93 Pickup, the ‘12 Tacoma I had, and my little brother’s ‘15 Honda Fit all were MT but the URD SS in the Taco made it the best for me.
