dumb question of the day. I've thought about changing this but how to do remove the factory shift knob. is it a simple as twisting it counter clockwise?

Thanks guys. Added this knob, and love it. I used two nuts, rounded the edges and screwed them on as a stop. I was able to tighten the knob down, and it stopped at the perfect spot. I used a screw in hook to pull the bottom piece off. Very happy with the result.

I used two 8m x 1.25 nuts to create a locking nut to stop the shifter where I wanted it to stop while tightening. Worked out great.

I was thinking of using a solid ABS plastic rod about 5/16" in diameter to place on the end of the threaded gear shifter so that the ABS rod goes up in to the threaded part of the knob and bottoms out and gives you the distance you need. What do you think?

Getting exact height would be hard . Maybe piece of vacuum hose might lwork better because it has some give so you can line up knob straight. But if need to might be hard to get hose out .

Check out out post 10. Second part # seems to work with out modifing. Or you could just cut 7/8 in off bottom of the one I brought more easy .The cut is not that noticeable..Also note top say1/2 in or so gets tight when you tighten knob so you can line ut up and it will stay tight.

I purchased the PTR57-34140 and it's still goes to far down before it tightens up. I know I'll have to play with cutting the rod to the exact size but it should be a tight fit when it's done.

I put my momo knob that I have had on every car for the last 20 years. It uses set screws and I used clear "fish tank" plastic tubing to build up a sleeve over the shifter shaft so the knob would slide down onto it nice and snug.

    Love it!

Anyone know what type of glue is used to hold the bottom plastic piece on the shift knob?

Addressed my loose shifter knob by wrapping the threads with plumbers tape, about 4 or 5 passes did the trick.

A $0.10 solution that couldn’t have been easier.

we’re you having the issue where the knob wouldn’t like screw on tightly? I am having the same issues and wasn’t sure if the threads in my knob were somehow stripped or something.
    Happened randomly

Back in the day, I used to use various tap handles.

My favorite was a Budweiser T handle. Had Heineken, Guinness, Bass and a couple others too.

Long handles equal broken shift linkage. Lol
