Hello all! I’m new to the forum and new to the Taco world but what are the chances of me being able to order and receive a 2021 lunar rock TRD Pro?

The local dealership here was annoyed that I would even ask. Not sure if they simply wanted me to buy something now like a sport...

A specific number is hard to come up with so just assume you have somewhere between a 0 and 100% chance of getting what you're looking for.

    Welcome to TW.

The market is a bit nuts right now. I went through a similar situation for my 21 Voodoo Blue Sport. I started the process in October, worked my way through about a dozen dealerships in my area, all of which were reluctant to try to find me a vehicle that I wanted. I was pretty picky. I wanted an Access Cab Long Bed Manual Transmission, with LED headlights. I had 2-3 colors that I would accept, but I would not budge on the transmission or cab/bed combo (which made it a Sport, since there are no other combos that you can get in a manual).

Most dealers will push you to buy something off the lot, or maybe try to have one trucked in from a nearby dealership. I eventually got Riley Toyota and another place (who will rename nameless because they tried to steal from me), to put in a request for a Voodoo Blue truck with their allocation in January. Their allocation was near the beginning of the month, 3rd or 7th, I forget. It was confirmed as allocated on the 20th, in early February they gave me a build date of March 14th...then April 7th, then April 14th. Then a delivery date of April 20th, then May 7th, then the 11th. Then the 24th. Then on the 14th I got a text from my sales guy showing me a picture of it on their lot with the paint protection plastic still on the hood, fresh off the truck. 4-ish months from allocation to delivery.

Unless you're willing to put down a deposit, and hope they push for one in their next allocation, you're probably going to get the run around. Most trucks are sold or spoken for the moment they roll off the delivery truck. The day mine was delivered, Riley got 4, and they were all already sold.

From what I've read on here, most buyers that are "building" specific trucks (not buying whatever is available on the lot) are waiting ~3mo. However, most of those reports/statements are from folks that have put deposits down between ~Jan and May '21. I have read a couple people on here have been told closer to 6mo lead times more recently--at which point you're more likely to be going into '22 models.

Thank you all for the warm welcome and responses. I do feel pressure from the dealers to buy off the lot. There is one out there (dealership will remain anonymous) that wanted $15K over sticker... I will wait and if nothing else buy either a white or gray TRD Pro.

Happy to report that through a lucky mixup, I got a Lunar Rock TRD Pro! The person ahead of me wanted a manual but it arrived as an automatic. Nearly the same specs that I had on my build sheet but with all terrain tires.

Needless to say I jumped on it as soon as the dealership call after he had passed.

And thankful because each week I waited since my initial deposit in early June meant a chance it would flip to a 2022. Now waiting on delivery!
