as a contractor, i get really tired hunting for house addresses anywhere but brand new sub divisions. the numbers are either missing, faded, or small.

so i fixed my house address. the little vertical numbers are the originals--leaving them up because they're covering the faded vinyl that i'm trying to ignore fixing for later.

i also welded a flower together. i'm hoping i can keep this one alive this time.

So I bought my house a few years ago now, and after we got used to the place and checked out all the little nooks and crannies, I came across a white pvc pipe-end sticking up out of the ground on the side of the house. Never thought anything of it. Also found several lengths of rebar sticking up out of the ground around the house. I eventually pulled one out and dug down to see if maybe it was marking something. What I found was a white pvc pipe running, what appears to be, around the house.

Looking at your pics, maybe what I have is a perimeter drain pipe. What exactly does this do? And why does it stick up out of the ground at one spot?

The function of the perimeter drain is to drain away any water that accumulates at the base of the foundation . In my pics , the vertical pipes will be clean outs so that it is possible to maintain the drainage pipe with cameras / power washing snakes to remove any debris or roots . The vertical pipes in my pics are not the final product , we just used some scraps of pipe in our T's to keep any drain rock out of the perimeter drain pipe while the machine dropped the drain rock into place , when we are done the vertical pipes will extend to grade with a screw in PVC inspection cap

make sure the end sticking out of the ground has a cap on it, that’s your inspection/ cleanout access

The end actually has a vent cap on it. Although, it looks more like its meant to channel water.

    Wow that don’t look right

unless it’s s an overflow from a pond lol

I’d pull it off then cut it off even with the grade and install a threaded cap like oz- t mentioned

Got rid of the drafty door and broken storm window and put french doors in. Still have to piddle away at the trim but the shitty parts are done.

I don't want to be 'that guy' , but what's holding up the header from the original door or is that a non-load bearing wall ?

I was thinking (maybe) one header covered the span of original door and window.

Looks to me like the header over the old door was taken out and a new one spanning the double door was put in. Looks like there's a Jack stud on the right side.

Got our perimeter drains inspected Monday then we started our infill

8" lift of drain rock on bottom covered in heavy filter fabric to create a drainage bed for any water wicking up from below

I ran all of our electrical and low voltage conduit , plus waterlines and a condensation drain line to the future mechanical room and then we carried on infilling with granular fill compacted with a 500lb compacter in 8" lifts

Pipes hanging on exterior are tight pipe for the gutter downspouts

we'll finish fine tuning interior grade tomorrow morning , then finish up backfilling to exterior grades
