My Tacoma up a creek. How f*cked am I?

So I got myself stuck in a creek this past Saturday for about 30 minutes and trying to figure out next steps. Can I get this fixed/fix myself or should I be talking to my insurance company?

Here's the deepest I got when I realized I wasn't moving forward any more:
And then I was able back up a bit and then got stuck until my friend could pull me out:

Started fine when I got it pulled out but had all kinds of lights: ABS, VSC, Airbag, Seatbelt.

Pulled the seats out same day (Saturday) and shop vac'd out as much water as I could. I tossed some Damprid in that night.

Sunday I ran it off and on with the A/C on and set to re-circulate to try to dry things out.

Monday I ended up pulling the kicker panels again and blowing out a few connectors I didn't touch on Saturday. I also set up a blower fan which I pretty much left running the entire day while moving it around to dry different areas. That seemed to really help dry things up.

Tuesday I spend more time in it running the A/C.

VSC and ABS lights cleared up on Saturday. Seatbelt light went off briefly after drying the occupant detection computer under passenger seat but it came back on. Airbag light has never gone off and have a list of expensive sounds trouble codes when I pulled codes with ODB Fusion App:
B1000: Airbag ECU Malfunction
B1650: Occupant Classification System Malfunction
B181D: Short to B+ in Passenger Side Airbag Variable Vent Hole Squid Circuit
B1823: Short in Side Squib (D Seat Side) Circuit (to +B)
B1828: Short in Side Squib (LH) Circuit (to +B)
B1833: Short in Curtain Shield Airbag (RH) Squib Circuit (to +B)
B1838: Short in Curtain Shield Airbag (LH) Squib Circuit (to +B)
B1863: Short in Knee Airbag (D Side) Squib Circuit (to +B)
B1868: Short in Knee Airbag (P Side) Squib Circuit (to +B)

I've also noticed this weird hesitation when starting: I press push to start button, hear a click (starter engaging?), 1-2s delay, then it cranks and starts.

Thoughts? Recommendations?

 

You.. uh. Yea. Good chance you’ve got some shot computers… and at least pretensioners.. and the harnesses will likely star to grow corrosion… best thing to do is pull the whole interior and dry EVERYTHING out you can. Connectors over time will start to Corrode and eventually you’ll have wiring gremlins all over.

last truck I had in the shop like this through insurance they totalled.

 

Have you tried putting it in rice?

Check ALL the fuses. A lot of these systems are run off common circuits

that wont prevent water getting into the cab or frying the circuits.

there is a whole process in creating a "water resistant" electrical system.

 

Would cramming dielectric grease in all of the connections prevent future corrosion?

 

It would help. But sitting in water like that for 30 minutes will still end up causing issues. The computers are very susceptible because they’re not sealed inside the cab

 

So make sure your insurance will cover the damage because if you were "off roading" some companies wont cover the damage. now if you were on a legally marked road ie "Foster service route" when it happened they "should" ...key word there, cover the damage. With that you have a main body harness located in the on both sides of the truck along the door jams. Also consider how deep the nose was water could have gotten in the main relay box under the hood. @Empty_Lord said the ECM could be shorted.

 

I'm fairly certain FS roads don't go through large ponds or streams.

 

I mean..... are you sure you were "offroading" on a non-marked road and not just on a flooded regular old road somewhere?? .......... might want to delete this post.

Edit: Also keep in mind GPS trackers on vehicle and also phone when you make the claim.

How about we DON'T encourage insurance fraud.

 

You want to open every multipin connector and spray this in it to clean and remove any corrosion. Then apply a dab of silicone grease and reconnect. Silicone grease will seal in the corrosion and moisture if the connectors are not first cleaned.

This stuff actually works and is plastic-safe. I’ve never had an issue with it harming anything I’ve sprayed it on.

Just saying.. Dude is potentially about to lose tens of thousands of dollars.........

 

Unfortunately things like this happen.. trying to commit Insurance fraud would make it much worse.
Best course of action here is to pull the interior, pull all the connectors, leave the doors open on a nice hot windy day. And pray to god the damaged stuff is minor

 

In Georgia we had one that went through a stream that got deep after a rain.
