I've found them to be reasonably accurate to within 1-2 MPG in my experience- as long as the sample size you're reading it off of is good enough. People post up after driving 2 miles out of a gas station down a hill and see 32 from a Tacoma and it's like :jerkoff: but I've never seen a vaccum/load calculated MPG indicator be wildly inconsistent with reality unless you do something wacky to it.

My current fuel up is going to be lower due to wheeling it last weekend so I'm more expecting ~17-18 overall. Mileage drops like a rock when you get on it, but man does that 4.0 feel nice.:D On a tank of pure easygoing commute I think 20+ would definitely be doable, if I kept the stock tires and went with lighter wheels you could probably eke out an extra MPG or 2. But let's face it, MPG is why I bought the hybrid Lexus, not the 4Runner.

Cowl intake is actually one of those mods that makes a big difference and people kind of neglect the impact of because it's not as glamorous... In the Miata world the front end of the early generations is so sealed up that there’s no good access to a truly “cold” source of air and you can spot the real OG's when they have the cowl duct sucking air from just below the wiper pivot. More often than not the factory airbox can outflow the motor and just getting it a cooler source of air makes the most gain.

Of course, it also often involves taking a hole saw to your firewall so I get that it's not a task that most people are itching to do.:sawzall:

Ok so dumb question. So I decided I was going to tackle removing bed bolts to install D rings. I have three that the torx head stripped. I was able to get one off with a pipe wrench by grinding down two end flat.

I’m starting on the second one and can’t get the pipe wrench to grab. So I’m headed down the road of welding a nut to the bolt.

two questions, can I use a zinc plated nut? Will it hold a weld?

I tried using my 110v rig and it won’t hold a weld strong enough for me to torque on. Do I need a 220v welder?

    frustrated!

gotta grind teh zinc off the bolt and the nut. Zinc from what I know is no bueno to weld for A: the fumes it puts off. B: Makes weak welds.

My dad had been looking for another project after he sold his Defender and had been looking at older land cruisers but really didn't want another huge project so he just pick up this 96 1st Gen.

Anyone planning on going up to Salt Like City in the next few weeks? I've got a line on a transmission and transfer case up there that would be perfect for my 4x4 swap.

I can reimburse in beer, cash, car parts whatever! I may be able to meet in Flagstaff or Phoenix depending on the time.

    Thanks!

Double this curiosity as I have someone in that area interested in my old axle housing. And it’s been tough figuring out freight shipping

Is the rolls north of saguaro still open right now with the fires going on over there? Saw someone said four peaks road closed back down for fires after being open for a short month or two. Looking to use the rolls to get to north side of saguaro and wondering if that parts still open.

Yes. @prise just got them. I've also been wanting them and I'm gonna pick up a set here soon as well. He'll be a better comparison though since he's N/A.

I have them but I’m having other unrelated issues with my truck that hasn’t allowed me to have any input on this mod yet.
