Was the radio the stock one? Who on earth would steal that lol.

 

Use an impact on the axle nut. It's torqued on there to 173 ft/lbs, if it hasn't come off in a long time there's no way you're getting it off with a breaker bar. Not without a long fight anyway. An impact wrench will take care of it.

Good luck with the seal, I tried doing mine several months ago and apparently F'ed it up because it's leaking again lol.

Well the radio was an aftermarket double din radio.

yeah at work before I leave were gonna hit it with a impact here and get it loosened, then tighten it back up so I can get home and I'll do it later.

On a positive note, I finally found some bolts to be able to put the proper gasket back inbetween the front air fuel sensor and where it goes into the exhaust, hopefully should stop that leak.

 

Are you sure this truck isn't cursed? It's not to late to sell it to someone on here for what you paid.

I dunno, replacing sensors and seals and exhaust issues are pretty much commonplace for a 20+ year old vehicle. How many 20+ year old Fords/Chevys/Dodges do you see still cruising around compared to Tacomas/Toyota Pickups?

I see most of this as normal DIY maintenance to breathe more life into a little truck that got neglected a bit by it's previous owner. Once it's all caught up on I'm sure you'll get a lot of years out of it.

 

I am hoping so. The P0420 code remains, but the truck runs soo much better with with the new 02 sensor. Still got put the axle seal in soon, and getting a new radio next week waiting on wiring harness.

Silver lining...I need to replace the a/c switch that is stuck on..open hole makes it easy lmao.

Yeah the p0420 code is a bitch, I fought with it for over a year living in denial of the fact that I just needed to replace the cats. Finally it came time to get smogged and here in CA, if you fail a smog test they will ride your ass on every test you do afterward. So I went ahead and replaced the cats, finally got rid of the code for good.

Also I called Toyota to find out my gear ratio since I have a ? And it was a special order truck they can't tell the gears.

 

You can jack up the rear end and rotate one of the rear wheels and count the drive shaft rotations. That’s an easy way to determine the gear ratio.

Gonna try to install the new cv axle and axel shaft seal this weekend, If not Monday.

It's a hug change going from 400hp to what...150hp. Even with the 31x10.50r15lt tires I got 300 miles to a tank running 70mph plus on interstate..I don't thing thats bad...considering it's only about 40 bucks to fill up. It was costing me about 120 week.

I'm really liking this little thing and not having a car payment for the first time in a long time is really nice.

Want to do a few things to it, maybe after we get some debt finished paid off and purchase a house next year I may retire it to be a yard/fishing truck.

I do need to find a turn signal socket for it which seems I can't get anywhere from toyota, and there is a piece missing in the dash where a factory option should have been maybe even a diff lock (even though the truck is limited slip)

 

That's interesting it has a limited slip...that wasn't an option through Toyota until they started making the 2nd gen TRD Sports in 2005 and it was only avail on this models.
Must be an aftermarket LSD someone put in at some point

 

It is..because its definitely limited slip. It lights up both tires in dirt, but doesn't here on pavement. This is the hole.




Also, I know 2.7 tacomas can be a little noisy he'll it's an old truck but does this sound like excessive valve train noise or am I being super picky. Cause my 18 f150 made about the same but it was direct injection. The ticket goes away with the higher rpms, can just hear it under loaf on a hill sometimes

If it’s a one wheel peal on pavement it’s an open diff. In dirt both will spin because of the lack of traction changing side to sidd

Gonna use the good tools at the shop tomorrow. Plus side S The skid plate is already off AND I got the fill plug off the doff so I can add some oil

 

Damn. Ah yeah I forgot about it turning...if you can get your hands on an impact wrench you won't have to worry about the hub turning. I would try that next
