Would have kept me under power a little longer. Electrical was still functioning, but engine had a few gallons of water in it and we were done. Of course I would have torn it off in the trees before that like one of the 4 antennas I went through.

Photos weren’t my priority, lucky there are any.

on the really blurry one I’m still in the vehicle and we were panicking a little as it was slipping sideways and taking me down river still.

The TRD desert intake looks like a leech stuck to the side of someone's face

I don't know how it would be better designed than anything aftermarket...a snorkel is simply an extension of your air intake. As long as it's connected to the intake then it's designed how it should be.

I’m sure I’m gonna get flack for this but what-Evs :crapstorm:

I made it about 13k miles on my TRD performance air filter before I got a MAF code because of dust intrusion. Granted I practically live on the moon closest to the sun. I found a silt pit on my way to the lake beach and that did it for me. The moon dust here hangs in the air for up to an hour on calm days.

If I get a snorkel it will be to keep dust out but I will probably splurge for the pre-filter. Where I drive and as much as I am off grid I think it’s warranted.

    Hope this helps OP

What's the story behind this maneuver? Was it a necessity and only option to get out of where you were, or more of a personal challenge/risk worth attempting?

The better thing to do in combo with a snorkel would be to ditch that performance air filter....they all let more dirt through them than a stock paper one. For a street truck I could see the (tiny) benefit of one but for an offroad truck it's only going to cause problems

Yeah? I looked at those. The thing that concerns me is that my fenders are cut for my bumper and I feel it leads to letting dust in easier.

Sure it's ugly and any snorkel would probably work. I'd like to see it as an option on the last 3rd gen Pro. Ditch the mooroof and the DAI, charge the same price.

It sounds like a reasonable mod in your situation. I don't see the flak worry.

The OP looking for new Dorkel designs is what put my antennas up.

Of course, as time goes on, there's always room for less performance:

why tho? toyota is literally just trying to lure the "future overland" guy into the snorkel . Its a double edged sword. it is meant to make the buyer literally believe it can go through anything with disregard and no knowledge about the ECUs, electronics and other critical electronic components that will become flooded. I get it they have a audience to cater to but buyer beware.

I used to do that with my bike that used a dinky filter. When it started to run rich, swap filter and keep on going.
