Not trying to make you feel bad about your purchase on the machine at all with the above comments.

I cannot stress this enough. Do not get that brake box wet and try not to get that harness wet either. We've had a few of those come in. For some reason those brake boxes fail. Our only guess is that water/moisture corrodes the wiring in there and in turn it fries the harness too. Every one we've had to work on had to replace the brake box and harness together.

 

I want to see a diagram of this "break box".

The commercial Toro ZTs I play around with don't have one...that I know of.

 

I’ll pull something up when I’m back at the shop. They are only on consumer machines.

It’s just an electric brake controller. No more brake lever. So you just start the mower up and move traction levers in. Brake box senses traction levers out of neutral via a switch I believe, and electronically turns off the brake. If you’re ever around one at like Home Depot and you have a key. Throw it in and turn to the on position but don’t start. Move levers in and out and you can hear the brake controller actuating the brake system.

Also take this info with a grain of salt. While I am a toro tech I’ve never personally had to change the box or harness but I’m in charge of over seeing a few techs who did the jobs.

 

Is this the brake box? I can see where that could be prone to water intrusion.

Amazon lists the part for $90. I would think a little time with some RTV to water proof it would make the system more sturdy.

 

Negative. I just looked up a random timecutter. model no 75734 only one serial range on it. Brake box asm PN#138-2514

 

Mind you these tend to fail after a few years nothing right off the bat in the low hour range.

Anyone ever back (anything) a ZT in my case - into their shop and set off the CO (ADT installed with security system) monitor - 3 hours later?

County FD - rolled, ADT put me on hold..........two trucks, aid car, chief, student learner.............a crowd showed.

No CO detected at that point. At a loss as to cause......false alarm?

I have ordered a digital monoxide meter, for "next time".

I mainly posted here to see if it's possible if an IC engine or mower could be a delayed source of CO, enough to set off a commercial cheapie detector. Detector is center, high spot of shop.

Another source? Truck backing in, but was garage next door and all shop doors were closed.

If it’s one of the New kind they pick up all sorts of stuff. Unburned hydrocarbons of any kind, even cutting with a zip cutter (relatively no sparks or dust) sets ‘em off. Old style ones were a lot more forgivin’

 

Makes sense! I had some plastic EPA approved gas cans vaping off out side in front of shop before disposal (I got some REAL metal gas cans)

 

Not really, my Sensit Gold will read down to very low CO levels and since CO is basically the same ''weight'' as air, it mixes very well and just hangs around until you actually exchange the air with air with no CO in it.

We will get calls from people who start their car in an attached garage, walk back into their house for a second and if there is negative pressure in the house or the wind is blowing into the garage door opening, it will push a decent amount of CO into the house in a very few short seconds. A just started vehicle produces many thousands of parts of CO [PPM] until it warms up some.

 

The carrying propellant on many aerosol sprays can also set off a CO detector

I sprayed the sliding bin on my camper with silicone spray, just the fumes set it off, wasn’t even inside just near by

 

When I run my old 1946 forklift the blue haze seems to linger in the garage for hours.
The forklift doesn't consume much oil as I don't use it much or for long.
She does blow a lot of smoke on occasion.

 

Leaky valve guides?

That always makes them smoke. A little oil goes a long ways with those low rpm engines.
