small square boxes on the ceiling of my DC?

Hey mallcrawl, way back at the beginning someone did look it up. Found diagrams and everything. It said it was for the handles.

 

I'll be willing to bet that information was for older trucks - pre SRS sytem, or pre-side curtain SRS system. On my 2011, it is stamped SRS airbag on the small cover. If someone would look at the 2010 or 2011 factory manual or prints, I know it will not state it is for the handles.

I think that is where the confusion lies. It depends on the year of the Tacoma.

 

But is your headliner stamped with SRS Airbag? Just o the front of this infamous box?

 

Mine is stamped with "You Rock"
Imagine that, how did Toyota know I would buy that exact truck.

It doesn't tell you in the manual , it just shows a diagram of where the airbags are in the vehicle , not what the box does or doesn't do .

The link you provided is for 2005 - 2006 Tacomas , mine is stamped SRS Curtain Airbag and I have an '09 .

Simple answer is we like to figure it out for ourselves! And before you edited your post it was just as pointless as you say the other post where, thats all. Anyway, my other guess at what it is, is that its where the aliens installed the tracking device to make sure our Tacomas are still all on the road. Oh what?! You didn't know Tacomas where made by aliens?

Can anyone with a stamped box confirm if there headliner is stamped also?

 

i may just be blowin smoke but if the bolt was not there and the air bag went off whats saying it would go down by the window? if it didnt have something directing it down it could possibly just blow out under the headliner and not do its intended job at all.

 

No, only thing I see is the words SRS airbag stamped into the small covers.

 

My '09 has the stamped box , but the headliner is not stamped .

 

So we both have curtain airbags. Mine is stamped on the headliner not box. Yours is stamped on the box not headliner. Seems liked they just switched it at 2010. Probably cheaper to stamp the box than the headliner.

 

yep, this supports what I was trying to stress.....it depends on the year of your Tacoma !.....and they do make changes from month to month of the build date. Just like the dash gage face color and lighting.

A lot of people are idiots. And those people who keep getting frustrated by said idiots need to push the POWER button to turn off their computer, and maybe go for a walk outside.



Now, in summary. If this little box was for an Oh Shit handle, there would be a second mounting point. Not just one (As has been confirmed by the guy with the 4runner). The best assumption that I have, with reading all of this information, is that the bolt has something to do with holding the airbag system in place. Be it a sensor, or the airbag itself, or just the headliner. It DOES relate directly to the RSCA System.
