CRAZY NASTY BATTERY TERMINAL GUNK

Ok, so I'm servicing our 04 Sequoia yesterday and the battery terminals are hideously covered with that nasty whitish-greenish crap. The battery is 2.5yrs. old I have the crappy felt washers and check and clean (if needed) every 4k when I service. I pulled the clamps and cleaned with baking soda solution and I just cant seem to get it good and clean. Looks horrible next day.

What is the science behind this? How come some vehicles do it and not others? Is there a specific condition or problem existing to promote this junk? Any good tips on preventing and dealing with this issue?

glue a penny to the top of battery. the corrosion will go to the penny before it goes to the terminals.

 

pour coke or pepsi on the terminals to clean...

 

you need to replace the terminals on the ends of the wires because they have stretched and don't tighten down properly on the battery terminals.

 

I avoid this problem by putting a thick coating of grease on both terminals. Done it for all our cars.

X2, or if you don't have grease, Vaseline will do the job.
