Looking at making a decision about whether or not to buy a TRD Off-road with a Moon Roof as part of it's option package.
How are they for leaks,? Is this something to stay away from?
Also do they reduce headroom, especially in the back seat?

Coming from a 2nd gen with no sunroof to a 21 Sport with I had the same concerns. My father-n- law who is 6’6” still fits and I didn’t notice any issues but I’m only 5’8”.

They reduce headroom in the front significantly. I'm 5'10" and brushed what's left of my hair getting in, out, and repositioning.

Edit: sold it to a 6' dude, but seating position may change results.

I've heard some people complain about a small loss of headroom in the front row but I'm 6'2 and I have plenty of headroom to spare. If I could magically have a moon roof in my truck for free, I'd take it and not worry about the small amount of space lost.

    Minor loss in headroom.
All my vehicles have had moonroofs since the '90s. Some parked outside all the time in the rainy PNW. They've never leaked. I think that's a thing from past and some of those pop-up/removable aftermarket sunroofs.

2020+ have power seats that lower to help with headroom.

2019 and early sit higher and my hair actually touches the shade cover.

Toyota sunroofs havent leaked since the 90's, they are solid.

Are you actually going to use it? I thought I would. I’ve forced myself to use it three times.

Can't testify to the leak but they do reduce headroom, but I'm 6'2" and have no trouble with head room.

I had a 2016 sport with moon roof and now have a 21 without. The roof was awesome, you'll love it. I didn't notice any headroom issues and I don't feel like I have all sorts of space in the 21. I'm 5'10".

No leak problems, but have never opened it or sun shade. If I could of gotten it without, I would have. The old saying, never cut a hole in a perfectly good roof. As for skylights on your house.

My wife's Avalons have never leaked & I assume they're made to the same standards. My current Tacoma is the only one I've had with one and it doesn't leak.

I have it because it was part of the premium package on my truck. I have never cared for sunroofs because I don't use them. However, it does not affect me and I am 5'11". Also, my wife uses it every time she drives the truck. She loves it.

5'11", no problems. One of the reasons I waited to get a 2016 and went to that package. Use it in the spring and fall more than summer, shade pulled back in the mornings and afternoons, closed in midday sun. No leaks.

6' even, no headroom issue. Top of my hat touches the headliner if I tilt my head left.
I've had fully grown adults in the back seat, no issues with headroom.
Though my sister-in-law did hit her head on the @MESO hexrack when I went over a bump...

Plenty of heavy rain out here, zero leaks in the 2 rainy seasons I've owned this truck through.

    This! Risk and reward.
I've never had an issue with moon roofs on previous vehicles, but since I was buying new and hardly used them, I did not want one. Moon roofs have been reliable for years, but man when they break....
My coworker just had his fail on his 2018 F150, be had to hitch rides, so he could leave his truck garaged, wait for the new track to come in, pay hundreds of dollars, and then tear it apart to replace,,, other option was to pay dealer well over a grand to fix.
