I agree. Dustin was great to deal with and couldn't be happier with my wheels.

 

They are because they're sequential with the turn signals on the mirrors, looks pretty cool - I dig it.

Love the long bed

 

Installed new Midland GMRS radio. Antenna mounted on roof rack. Cord routed along passenger windshield trim with RTV, then through the firewall next to the A/C drain hose. I screwed the receiver box bracket to the interior trim with 3 screws I had laying around.

I’m Got the lift installed and the Yokohama’s mounted finally. Driving home from the shop, had some bros in a white taco throw up the Shaka

 

Where he drills into is steel. trust me. If you do it it, you will see. he just didn't coat the holes, or he didn't include it in the video, but where he drilled is steel.

 

Sleeping/work platform Update: Day 1 progress made, Day 2 progress reversed, Day 3 back to where I wanted to be on day 2, Day 4, framework and cutting complete. Messed up the orientation of the wood grain on the last cut out on the left side today, quick visit to the bandsaw tomorrow. Lots of fine tuning and small mods left before it’s complete. Maiden journey is June 23rd.

 

Have an ome bp51 lift kit coming for 2" lift and general overall awesomeness. It seems pretty complete with shocks, leaf springs, and driveshaft spacer but was mildly surprised there were no uca's. I'm thinking I would like to upgrade those but wasn't sure and 2" seems to be on the edge of uca replacement being required. Any thoughts on the need for replacement and possible suggestions? I ride my truck on the aggressive side(had to opt out of that toyota app driver score...kept giving me bad grades for my driving smh) and want the truck to handle that with ease if I'm overlanding, fishing in norcal, or highway driving.
Unrelated to that I am loving this AG limited long bed. I sometimes wish I'd gone the trd pro route(mainly when looking at my front grille) but the limited long is a sweet ride and fun/challenging to mod with all the safety features and cams to work around.

During my “time out” I got a few things done but mainly to get ready for a long upcoming road trip to visit my pops (he’s not doing well and I’m not sure how many more visits (fl->nc) we can cram in before it’s too late. I’m glad we went up last sept before the decline- my girls are 8&9 and I hope that visit sticks out more than those that follow… this just sucks) yes, overshare (not typical of me especially publicly) but with advise- ask, no tell, your parents to make a voice recording/video for each grandkid (or you), something short and sweet (even just a hi, how are you, love ya) that they can listen to as the yrs go on. Do it now and tell them to keep it with their will. Unfortunately it’s too late for that for my girls or me (speech is affected). And I don’t have any saved voicemails

So the trip is a 9 hr drive but with kids 11-12. So to have some more room I swapped the huge boosters with something low profile but the seat bottoms were kinda hard so I went on the search for trip comfort. Added purple cushions/headrest pillows/travel pillows

I wanted to finish the katzkin in the rear but ran out of time and didn’t want to rush it potentially breaking something. I’ll have to get another pic of the purple cushions (they loved these) and the only uncomfortable thing was the bar for the headrest pillow (if they leaned head back instead of to the side) that attaches to the posts. I’ll have to find something to cushion this and look like it’s supposed to be.

I finally said f it and installed the sumos (if you seen my posts in the last couple months it goes into more detail). Since my aal install my rear left to right had an 7/8-1inch difference, so I installed a 1/2” hs block/spacer on the drivers side to correct the taco lean or get it closer. Doing that obviously raised the driver sumo closer to frame and the passenger sumo had a bigger gap obviously without the 1/2” spacer (my thought process was they wouldn’t engage Simultaneously) so I had them send me a 1/2” spacer for the passenger sumo. Now I’ve not seen this done before and not sure if it’s even proper- talk to me! So now the driver leaf is raised closer to level with passenger and the sumo puck/spacer on passenger has similar gap from sumo to frame as the drivers side. I did have to grind and drill out the sumo bracket bolt to extend the bolt and grind a little of the center pin leaf bolt to clear each other. I was told raising the driver rear would not effect the height of the front BUT my thought is maybe slightly just based on what happens if you do a lean fix to the front (raise driver front will lower passenger rear is what I thought I have read so why wouldn’t this be the same if done from the rear?) any one that wants to share thoughts on this pls do. Because maybe a coincidence but now my steering wheel is not centered… if raising the driver rear in fact effects the passenger front slightly does that make sense my steering wheel is not centered? It does pull slightly too. Other then that, it drives fine and no weird vibrations at any speed (up to 80-85).

like any project I do- it takes me longer being extra. since the tire was off I grabbed the wash bucket and now clean



this was done a week or so after when I got the sumo puck/spacer to even sumo to frame gap. I tried to countersink as much as I felt comfortable with to get as much clearance to the center leaf pin.

and to make a point to my previous posts on my hesitation to install the sumos initially- look at how the ubolts crush the edges of the sumo bracket. IMO a design flaw (whether it’s significant enough to cause concern is unknown) but enough concern that the company told me it shouldn’t do that and that I needed to grind their bracket to make narrower for the ubolt seat. Explaining that it changes to torque value… I would of thought a redesign was in order since it is listed for a specific vehicle and not sold as universal but nah. If you compare to the stock bump bracket- it is not as wide as the leaf (which sumo bracket is), it’s narrow where the ubolt seats. Reason being ubolts are not square at the corners, there is a radius. I’d bet anyone that takes their sumos off that there’s are the same

I also reinstalled that metal leaf shim from the stock overload (aal instructions didnt mention reinstalling these or not and I didn’t when I did the aal but after thinking about it maybe it was for noise control. Not that I have any squeaks yet I figured I’m there and it won’t hurt. I added it to the top of the 3 leaf aal since it was on top of the overload)

driver- stock pack, hs 3leaf progressive aal with the 1/2” spacer, no sumo spacer

passenger- stock pack, hs 3 leaf without the hs 1/2” spacer but with the sumo 1/2” spacer


I took out my Plano bed box and replaced with this hf because it dropped price quite a bit and I don’t store a whole lot (wasted space). Plus now I can haul lumber or whatever under the box without hs ring to jump in and shuffle the box around. This was perfect, seen on here from a member but I don’t want to drill box into bed so I still have to fab up a mount- using a 5/4 board to length using the pockets and some kind of metal mount to attach to rail and screw to the wood. The box will be screwed to the wood. Open to suggestions or a product/mount already being sold I’d might be able to use. The bungee is a temp solution.


I swapped the old door sill protectors with the new in the rear (more real estate). Followed the installation but I might redo it because it kinda bothers me how offset it looks with the panel lines above. Maybe my reference points were different than I thought and I installed it wrong, don’t know because the instructions pictures/diagram were crap (definitely not the same quality as the tailgate lock instructions). I also didn’t dry fit it with the panel installed so I didn’t see this until after. Taking the old off was easy but did leave some residue. Went a bit extra here too Goo gone, clean, clay, polish then alcohol prep for the new



Then I had been considering a frig for the trip. Pulled the trigger on a jp30 because of price and compressor used (I also used some code hobo tech something which I think took 50-60$ off!). So I was going to use the bed plug but was “tacomaworld’” out of it so bought the arb harness and ran that from the stock battery to the bed. Arb came up short about 3-4’ and had to do a temporary extension (quick and dirty because I literally finished it hrs before leaving). I bought the blue seas dc socket because I couldn’t use the arb 2pin socket. I’ll problem buy the arb cord and switch it out later. I ran it to the mini bed box by the bed outlet. I have pics of my routing and zip tie but it was simple following the driver side factory harness the whole way back. I measured out the lid to center a blue seas 2 hole and switch panel so I could do that later and add a voltmeter but I’m not sure I like how far out they stick out. May go with a powerwerks 2 or 3 panel instead.


I’ll have to get more pictures of the finished panel/setup but I’d like to eventually do a fuse panel in the bed (below the box) just for adding bed lights etc nothing big.

I also need to figure what I’m going to do to secure the frig better when in use and easily removed when not. I’d like a slide but don’t want it there all the time so that’s out


And during the trip (Gastonia nc area memorial weekend) I seen many tacos, some modded that might possibly be members. I even got a nod by one guy (was my first, the ol lady looked at me and said that guy just nodded you- what’s that about, some truck thing? ) This was me

 

looks good. What is up with the tailgate cap, does it stick out? have any more pics of it? and those look like some robust tailgate letter inserts. where did you get them?

Going to finish wiring my baja light bar later today. The wire harness that came with it doesn’t allow for independent use of the amber and white lights on the light bar. So I ended up ditching the harness and wiring it all by hand. All that’s left is the to finish white lights.
