I tried 'em all and in the end found mine on eBay at a nearby dealer. I called 'em up and drove over to close the deal. Don't count out eBay.

I agree, tons of them on ebay. What I found was they hold their value so much, I ended up buying new. I got my new 2011 4x4 DC V6 SR5 tow pkg for less than a lot of used ones with as much as 20,000 miles on them. I'm very happy with the truck.

I was in the same boat. Had several dealers looking for a year or two old, with less than 30K miles, plus was looking around on autotrader, craigslist, etc.

Ended up buying a '10 off the lot new becasue the couple that did come up weren't deals. A few K under sticker for a year's worth of use and miles wasn't worth it to me.

searchtempest is an aggregator for craigslist. SUPER AWESOME
They have some new features in the auto realm, but that just annoying.
Search tempest allows you to search a radius of craigslist from you and sort on keywords and such.

    This too,
I found that at the dealer my 2011 TRD sport DCLB was the same price as a 2010 used SR5 @ the dealer.

I was trying to buy a 1st gen originally, but were about $20k. So I decided to just get a 2nd gen used, these were in the low to mid 20's. So then I just decided to pick up mine, what I have now for $28k with 7k miles. Tacomas hold their value good, which is why I was having trouble(didn't want to spend much) buying one before I became a Taco owner.

I looked for months on local classifieds, autotrader, ebay, craigslist, and much more. Then one day I was looking for some information on a car's VIN number and went to CARFAX.com and saw the "Find A Car" link. I went through it and bought my Tacoma the next week from it. http://www.carfax.com/used_car_classifieds/hotListingsSearch.cfx The ones that show up also come with a Free CarFax so you can look at the history before going in to look at it.

They do hold their value well but there also don't seem to be a whole lot for sale. I put my old 05 on craigslist for what I thought was a reasonable price from the research I had done and had 6 serious inquiries in about 12 hours. It sold at 3 the next day to a used car dealer. Fortunately I already had found a few double cabs for sale and wound up buying the truck I have that night about 2.5 hours from my house.

I was lookiong to buy used, ended up buying a 2011 for a couple thousand more. Looked for 6 months. The used Tacomas had 12 to 40k miles on them. Seemed they wanted a lot of money or they had a lot of miles on them.

Another +1. I tried REALLY hard to get a good used rig.

But when the used price % exceeds the remaining service life %, that means I actually get more bang for the buck, buying new.

If I'm going to get worse financing terms & deal with an unknown private seller or one of those seedy used lots, and get no meaningful warranty, I need a DEAL, not a joke.

Hope you have better luck, OP. (Wide net is a good idea. I found some more promising leads on CL but couldn't do a 200 mile trip.)
