Im having a problem with the amount of preload im needing to get the right height on my shocks. I had a set of bilstein 6112s with 600 lb coils on the 2.5 inch setting and was getting 2.5 inches of lift. I wanted to upgrade so i bought a set of Fox 2.5 extended travel 0-3 inch lift shocks with 600 lb coils. When i purchased these I mentioned that i also have sliders, skids installed, and a front bumper on the way.

Well I just put them on and I have about 25 threads of preload showing but am only getting 1.25 inches of lift and thats before I am going to put the bumper on and rubbing when I didnt before. My overall shock length from top hat to bottom mounting hole is 20.75 inches and the max accutune says I can go is 21 inches. Im starting to think accutune should have told me to get 650 lb coils instead because all the weight im going to be carrying. How do I get to 2.5 inches of lift?

    You need 700lb coils.

I run an ARB bumper with winch and skids etc on ADS coilovers with 700lb coils and I was still almost maxed out on the safe preload of the coils for 2.5"

Go 700 pound springs if you have a front bumper on the way. That's strange your only getting that much lift.

Yea thats what im thinking. I just dont know how accutune is known for tuning shocks yet wont recommend a spring upgrade for someone with a lot of extra weight. Now I got to take these things off .....again. FUN!!!

Accutune can weigh in here, but the 21" at ride height is just that... you can't go beyond that without sacrifices to the IFS. This would be no different from the Fox to the Billies.

Edit: Increasing the spring rate is not going to give you additional lift. You are still going to be limited by the 21"... As someone who took bad advice and had 700 lbs springs. I later had to swap to lower 650's and could still stand to go to 600's.

Im just wondering how my bilsteins managed to get 2.5 inches of height before with 600lb springs. Same weight too.

The spring heights are all the same but the difference is how much weight they can support. He’s got too much weight on the 600’s which is why they’re sagging and giving him a lower ride height.

So increasing my spring rate isnt going to do anything? I guess your right because I will be limited to .25 more inches in the shock itself.

If he's measuring from the top of the top hat to the lower mounting eyelet at 20.75", nothing is going to change by going to 700 lb springs. Yes, it will take less preload, but it's still going to be maxed out at 21". The spring rate isn't going to help. Something else is amiss with his measurements.

Correct. The IFS limits your ability to add height. If you measured from the top of the top hat to the center of the lower shock eyelet as 20.75" (with the vehicle under it's own weight), yes, that's all you can get. 700 lbs springs will require less preload, but you'll still be maxed at 21".

As far as vendors go, they seem to be incredibly helpful and very active on the forum. I suspect one of them will chime in here soon. But if it's close to you, a drop in would probably get you an answer even quicker.

Im sure one of them will however I dont think there is really much I can do if im maxxed out at 1.25-1.40 inches of lift at a 20.75 length shock. Ill see what that extra .25 does. Hopefully it at least gets me another .5 inches of lift.

I'll be interested to hear the results/solution to this. I think a lot of the blokes that have 2.5" to 3" of lift on TW have exceeded the 21" prescription and just ingnore their limited down travel and thud that comes with it.

Not sure how you got 2.5” of lift with 6112’s. I’m at 6/5 setting settled a little under 2” with 600lb springs. Good luck with you Fox set up
