The gun will work with lighter buffers. Mfgs use them because they're cheaper and most people don't really know when their gun is getting beat to shit. But bolt velocity is way too high and port noise is much worse when there's too little weight. The potential for out of battery ignition is also higher. I learned most of this trying to get my 10mm AR working. I went back and revisited all of my other blowbacks; 9, 40, 45 and was shocked how much better they run with more weight.

It's not just guesswork either, there's some real physics and math behind it. Every blowback gun I have pretty matches this website

    https://10mmautocombat.wordpress.com/blowback-bolt-calculations/

My 10mm AR buffer is 2.1lb.

Has anyone had an AR upper cerakoted? Does it effect the function of the dust cover or anything else in an adverse way?

    not if done correctly.

it should be stripped down before “painting”. Not just sprayed over like someone painting over a wall outlet cover.

I am looking at ordering a kit disassembled. I figure if I want something like that done preassembly would be the perfect time I’d like boy have to disassemble the forward assist and dust cover. This may be the only rifle I build so I’d like to have some fun with it. My others are all just black because I typically don’t care about the colors.

Since we are are going old school...this is my first AR-15 I saved up and bought when I was 13 in 1985 (That is how we roll in Texas). It is Colt Sporter II. As you can see it has the old style rear sites and the big screw in pivot pin(not a good idea). And no bayonet lug in the 1980s was complete without a Stoner bayonet with wire cutter. My friend says this is a very short lived Colt AR that was not made for very long, because the H-Bars came out shortly after this. [IMG]

Always thought those transitional models were interesting with the A1 lower, A1 upper but A2 barrel and handguards.

I’m just glad I was able to always find Colts w/o the sear blocks.
