Ah that's a shame. There's a great shop in my area that specializes in overland builds, they even have an actual alignment rack and everything. I doubt it's something you could get right in the garage, it sounds like even a decent alignment shop that doesn't specialize in this sort of thing usually won't get it right.

 

It is. There are a few places that are ok and now with things being easier to do I’ll see what they can get. I am going to move my wheels forward before I take it in for my next alignment and see if they adjust from there with my spc uppers at C and the ball mid way along the slide.

 

Hell yeah Brady! Planning on doing 20+ for that full retirement benefit or do you have plans after your 20 in the "civilian" world? I am friends on social media with some folks that I served with and more recently I say to myself if I would have stuck it out I'd be retired eligible in 5 years but I definitely have no regrets getting out and am for sure enjoying life and appreciating the little things in life. Good news! Adam at Ironman got back to me today saying UCAs are back and got inventoried today. He also said constant load coilovers are out of stock, but performance ones are available. I don't need coilovers, so he may have me confused with someone else, but that's the situation for anyone waiting on parts.

 

Sweet! I got the performance coilovers so I hope to get mine soon also I received my free air compressor from them today after reaching out to them last Friday. Talk about quick..I guess it also helps that I'm only a 20 min drive from their warehouse.

 

Yup, I got a email today saying my UCA is on its way. Should be here Saturday. No idea when I can install them tho

 

My Coopers are 48lbs each, my wheels are twenty-something pounds as well. It’s been a while since I weighed them.

I did so much research on tires it was, well a little ridiculous. I do that a lot though.
I bet that’ll be a good combination, those 884s are probably nice out front.

Yeah I like 884s. Since we have two wheel drive, it provides a nice lift. I’ll keep the thread updated once I get around to installing the leak packs. Thanks for your info!

 

Got another alignment done, was just a little out… so far, I’ve not gotten it to rub.

 

Sounds good, hopefully it’ll settle where you want. I’m going to start looking for 4WD components soon.

I need to find a shop that can get those numbers for me, like an off road place. Everybody I’ve tried says they can’t do it. I’ve walked out on two shops over that crap.

 

I bought the lifetime alignment from Firestone and have been there 3 times including today and the dealer once for the alignment. First time at FS was lift, stock tires and oem uca. Second was at FS with new wheels, tires and spc UCA. They kept stock specs even though I gave them the numbers I wanted. Also hit a pot hole that knocked/slid the UCA balljoint nut out of place. After that I read up on how to do an alignment at home moved from “C” to “D” and torqued the crap outta those top nuts (didn’t have a socket for the first adjustment so they were only unga unga tight, not properly torqued). Also moved the wheels forward with LCAs so tires would not rub. Took to dealership for 1year oil change and alignment. Got much better numbers, but they moved the wheels back and they would rub occasionally and I had to take the mud flaps off, still some rubbing. Before I took it this time, I moved the wheels forward again and got those numbers. I’ll put the mudflaps back on see if there is any rubbing later.

 

I suppose I should just learn how to do all those measurements myself too.
Seems like you have to personally know a guy that’ll put it at the numbers you want.
I always wonder if that’s why my steering is a bit touchy, riding on top of the tire like a sport bike.

 

Oh, I’ve not actually measured or learned how. Just beat guess then taking it to get checked. I’d like to really learn how but I should too. I knew about what I wanted it to be and do. I put my mud flaps on and the tires still rub on those.

 

So how do you guys figure out the numbers you want for an alignment?

 

Multiple places. For the most part, you want camber and toe to normal specs. Then everyone else will tell you, you’ll have a better ride if you get caster at 3° or higher. By better, I mean drivability and steering. It’ll also help get your wheel more forward (positive caster up top moves wheel back while negative caster on LCA moves forward (I think)) TW word of mouth and the IM UCA spec sheet mainly. AFAIK your target for a 2 to 3 inch lifted Tacoma should be camber 0, toe 0, and caster 2.5+

You’re welcome. Just know I’m no expert and a measure once cut 2 or 3 times type of guy….

 

You may not be able to get the caster if you are over 2" unless you upgraded your UCAs. Personally I wouldn't consider lifting to 2" without UCAs.
