I know a guy who is a scallop fisherman on Nantucket...that's one of like 4 of his jobs because they're seasonal. They fish in FUCKING FEBRUARY!!! Brutal...it's all in the harbor. They have a single family Cape house with 4 bedroom 2 bath and it's like a $2.5 MILLION dollar home...Insane...when they die their kids will have to pay EIGHT HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS in taxes just to keep the family home...see how that works? Keep talking about the rich and that death tax. It's crazy.

Same thing. Modest small homes nestled between Westhampton and Southampton.
I can’t even imagine what it’s like today, I haven’t been that way since 09.

 

Road trip to the Big E sometime...5 mini replica states houses worth of region foods...From bread bowl chowders, Clam cakes, Lobster rolls...Rhode Island red hot dogs, maine baked potatos....OH I love it...Sure it's a cesspool of white trash...but would you want it any other way?

Roadside chicken stands in rural Hawaii are absolutely amazing. Dont pass those up next time any of you go to the islands. Rent a car, get out of resort town and eat the street food.

Last time I was in kauai I rented a harley and spent a day looking at the jurassic park landscape and eating grilled chicken and pork

 

I live in the desert, I pay out the nose for fresh seafood. I can get it here but damn it's expensive and it's always been on a truck or plane for a day.

when I was in Honolulu drove up to the north shore and stopped 4 times on the way there trying everything.

my grandmother was Hawaiian and born in Haleiwa, so I soaked up every minute of that drive.

 

You can make a half decent seafood soup stock out of a bunch of liquefied mussels. I dont think I want the ones you use for science though.

They are being used to determine how much endemic toxins they absorb while sitting in contaminated water...this is year 1 of what I think is a 5 year study...

Past things we've done...one of them was a striped bass study...basically the more conservative your fillet around the internal organs and body fat the better...If you try to get every last bit of meat...MORE toxins...

 

I fillet and eat. Grab the cheeks if it's halibut. Guts and hard to get meat become bait for the crab or prawn traps.

 

lived in Hampton bays on the east end of Long Island and the docks were 1.2 miles away. Bout 3 days a week id walk the dog to the docks and get myself fresh tuna steaks for like $4 each.
I’d sometimes switch up and get swordfish.
Pad of butter and a squeeze of lemon after a couple minutes on each side on the grill…
Cheapest eating of my life and it was also the healthiest.
