But - there is no set price. And they don't mind if you pay more than the next guy.

    2017 Tacoma OR 4x4 (formerly a 1998 SR5 PU, 2002 OR 4x4, 1995 4x4 4Runner, 1985 4x4 Toy PU) ... and RIP’s (rust in pieces) to a Bronco II 4x4 & S10 Blazer 4x4
I brought my truck in for servicing and a salesman in the dealership walked over and offered flat out $30k for my 2017 OR DCSB as a tradein for new with 52k miles on it. He had a customer that really was looking for a lower-priced used one, Bluebook price for a used private party one with 56k miles is $36K so I wonder what the guy was willing to pay.

Unfortunately for them, and they hate types like us that do this, but I buy for keeps and said thanks but no.

I'm not sure why anyone would post YouTube videos of how to negotiate with dealers. That era is on vacation and there's plenty of pud knockers that will pay right now. Think about the future, naw fuck that sign me up for a $45K SR at 72 months.

Anti-trust laws, still on the books, were once used to keep dealers independently owned. No could buy up all the dealerships in an area and create a monopoly.

I know of two people who have gotten at least $1000 off of MSRP on a Tacoma in Canada. It takes a few months wait. But possible. Unhaggle.com still has dealers offering below MSRP.

If you don't believe there is a lot of money in new cars sales you haven't done your homework. Just because dealerships cry about the expenses on their brand new showrooms... rebuilt every five to ten years... and their payroll... many part time and no longer commissioned, or ASE certified and earning 100K a year out of 500K the dealer makes... does NOT mean they are eating beans.

I just bought a 2021 Tacoma 4x4 TRD-OR, with some features, elect package, power seats, tinted windows, safety pack a couple of months ago.
After dealer added fees for lifetime oil change, free wash, year vinyl protection, clear coat protection, loaner car, etc price was $37,900.

I thought it was a good deal, didn’t know anything about stock issues, did I just beat the markups, or did I pay too much at 38K?
I did notice they only had a couple of new Tacoma’s and Tundras and thought that was strange

no, the market is fuckin nuts right now

Two weeks ago, I bought a new 2021 TRD Off road 2WD for that exact price. 37k MSRP, 42k OTD

supply vs demand man. I couldn’t hold out like you, my loaner was about to break down and I needed a way to get to work

edit: oh and I had to drive 130 miles to find something that would sit on the lot longer than 15 minutes

That sounds like a good price. I don't want a power seat which takes the OR off my list of potential new vehicles to consider.

I know people who try to negotiate everything (set price or not). I don't agree with that practice. And usually don't place myself in that type of situation anyway. I believe that it's poor taste.
I personally don't know of many other products or services (in the us) that are intended to be negotiable other than the automotive (type) industry.
Maybe housing - but how many of those do you buy in short time.

Someone at Toyota just threw there hands up and shook their head.

Also, why would you eliminate the Taco for having an electric seat? I myself don't like them and am glad my truck doesn't have one, but even an electric one I would set it and forget it. What is sold today that doesn't have an electric seat?

There isn't huge amounts of money made on the average new vehicle selling price by the time discounts are applied. Money has to be made in other ways....pre owned vehicles, financing, add ons, service. The "front end" of most new car deals are pretty slim.

There is actually more money to be made on used vehicles than new vehicles....on average.

I paid 25.585.00 out the door. But that was back in 2017 when things were really good. I just bought a SR 4x4

That's a matter of opinion I suppose. But negotiating can be done very respectfully. And that's how I conduct myself when I do it. I've saved a lot of money on all sorts of things over the years.

I never had anyone get upset with me. In fact, we usually end up with a fair amount of rapport before it's over with

I called almost every dealer within a 100 mile radius of my house and found ONE who would sell at MSRP. Most were $5k - $15k over MSRP.

I wasn’t in the market for a new truck but I was offered slightly less than I paid for my 2015 six years ago. Such a crazy market.
