I thought that was the rule here? :notsure:

In any case, oversight has been corrected in previous post.

    Interesting.

I think a 4cylinder combo of non turbo, turbo, or hybrid will be it for the Taco.

Twin turbo V6 would be sweet and I'd love to be wrong that Taco owners won't have that option.

Anything to shorten the lifespan of these modern vehicles. Anyone who dreams of turbocharged bliss, has never owned turbocharged headaches.

I hope so. I owned a turbo diesel for 10 years. The first component to fail was the Turbo unit.

What will turbo do to the longevity of the engine though?

I was considering the ranger, but my folks who know a lot more about cars steered me away from it saying a turbo engine is working harder and therefore will have a shorter lifespan, and also that the 10speed would be hard to service if/when problems arise

In the days of turbo charged imports the consensus was to keep the oil spotless and get a turbo timer.

Turbo engines don't last as long as NA engines, the turbo's are all going out on Fords eco boost engines, all our work vans are shitting the tube bed between 100,000 and 120,000 miles. Built right a turbo engine can last, but the tube itself will wear out.

I this some information about the new 4runner from @Carmaker1
Hope we can put this together to get a better picture of the next Tacoma

(The next 4Runner (and possibly Tacoma) have indeed been delayed by 1 more year due to power train, to accommodate the I4. Don't believe me? This is the best I can link you to, because any other sources are word of mouth for the time being.)
    https://www.vwvortex.com/threads/2022-4runner-trd-sport.9472975/post-115104461

(It should be MY2024, production shows starting as Q1 of 24 at Guanajuato.
I think has to do with drivetrain, again, I don't work for them but just in the supply chain biz, last I heard the 4cyl hybrid set up is being push to have full EV function, which it wasn't in the beginning.)

Problem is, this was done so late, there wasn't time to develop another minor refresh in the meantime. It will carry on as-is. My industry access forecast info hasn't been updated from MY 2024 to 2025MY for the Tacoma, but I am thinking it will eventually. They didn't set out originally to do this, as I know for a fact Q3 2023 Job 1 was on deck and it has slipped.

There will no longer be a manual transmission option as well.

Land Cruiser Prado 180-Series also delayed.

I wonder if this shortage will effect future model release dates any. Supposedly manufacturers are seeing like 30-40% less sales than previous years due to the shortage, I am hearing online

My country boy thinking is that anything you do to a small engine (like a turbo or supercharger) to get more HP out of it is going to shorten it's life.

Toyota sells twice as many Tacomas as next competitor and sales numbers are increasing and would be higher still if there were any on the lots. Sounds like they have a good product as it is.

Almost everything I run has a turbo or two, they can last just as long as an NA engine. The days of turbo timers are long gone as they either have active oil circulation or passive after shutoff so there is no coking. Shit, I even kept an EJ255 running strong for 12 years and 160k, (sold it) but that may have been luck.

Yota isnt gonna throw out a half baked engine for the LC, its their flagship vehicle. Its known for its reliability so I would imagine they want to get it right. We can talk about it all day but this is the direction the world is going - smaller displacement, less cylinders, turbocharging and hybridization. Im almost more worried about the hybrid parts failing as im less familiar with them.

Synthetic oil, oil filter with a bypass.. tight tolerances with 0-20w and direct injection and the oil won't get as dirty. Some of the diesels I work on are actually including a centrifuge to keep everything clean. (Which seems like a weak link imo)

The 3.5 TT going in the new Tundra is not really a new engine. It's a strengthened version of the Lexus LS500 engine that's been out for a while now. That engine develops 442 lbs ft of torque at 1600 rpm. I had the opportunity to drive an LS AWD a couple of years ago. The thing pulls hard on a dig.

With the hybrid booster option I'm hearing the torque number for the Tundra will be around 600 lbs ft at under 2k rpm.

No way it will ever see an application in the Tacoma. It would twist our pussy little frames into a candy cane

If you can find one, try the Rav4 Prime. If Yota makes a 4Runner version, I’d be in. I wouldn’t be upset to a Taco prime either.

I'm fairly certain they're getting ready for the electric pivot. With Norway being 90% and California 20% (per capita), it's changing faster than one would think.
