I've noticed unlike my old tundra...you need to use 4wd a lot more often to keep everything in those gear cases lubed up. Found if you only engage 4wd once a month for a couple miles, it won't cut it. The mech. gets sticky. I've now made it a habit of once every week to use 4wd for a couple miles. Found it now clicks in slicker than goose poop on a wet lane like it did when the truck was brandy new.

Just get the ravenol 75w on Amazon... no need to take it to a shop to do this simple thing if you can turn a wrench at all, ravenol give you exactly the 1 liter you need and a straw in the bottle. Very easy job.

Both my 06 and 16 tacos have been difficult to engage/disengage. I have found that turning slightly while rolling at low speed can help. Both trucks virtually would not go into or out of 4wd without turning a little. For the times it is really sticky, I reverse while turning slightly. The e-locker seems to be just as, if not more finicky, but the same tricks seem to help.

Mine engages best if, while slowly rolling, I give it a little gas then let off. Sometimes mine flashes on the dash a few times, sometimes only twice. Like someone mentioned before, have it engaged before you need it!

Yeah, seems to help once rolling with not on the gas pedal before engaging 4wd. I even found going from reverse to drive when 4wd is switched on will quickly engage it.

Make sure you are using 4wd once every 3 month at the very very least. Even if it’s engaging and disengaging. I think the manual says 10 miles once a month but you don’t need that much.
