Yeah, sometimes the wildwest is fun, sometimes it's not. Last month I was on the taxi way and stopped and positioned to see both ends of the runway. My wife asked me what I was doing. I told her two citations just called back to back on 2 mile and 3 mile finals from both 18 and 36. I didn't want to miss the show. Was not disappointed. The second jet touched down as the first jet was clearing the runway with less than 100 feet of separation. Technically no runway incursion, but about as close and high speed as you want to miss.
The really fun stuff though is when someone is calling a left pattern while they fly a right pattern. Never a boring day.

Oof, oh yeah, sounds about right. My favorite was one of my very early solos, just boppin' around the pattern when the resident glider decided to stop making radio calls. I knew they were in the area but didn't have a visual, wouldn't answer my calls for clarification. I had just turned final and decided I was a little too tight and high for my liking. So I added power for go-around(forward slips weren't quite in my wheelhouse yet), and JUST as I started climbing and sidestepping the runway, I look down and see the glider maybe 30ft directly below me, also on final. I'd never felt the color drain from my face so fast. If not for the go-around, I'd have bored a 172-shaped hole right through them within seconds.

It baffles me that BHB isn't towered. With the summer traffic numbers, even a part-time tower during peak season would be an immense help. Place is crawling with Cape Air, Netjets, biz jets, two scenic operations, and a few students normally.

Watch out for those gliders not talking to anyone. Don’t know if any of y’all know or remember, but friend of mine was involved with a glider midair 15 or so years ago. They were descending into RNO when a glider decided to pay them a visit….not talking on radio and no transponder. By the grace of god, everyone lived. 18534989-ED6B-4877-9D5F-10260742EDF7.jpg80584B6E-38D2-418B-A752-98ABDE2CEBC8.jpg 80584B6E-38D2-418B-A752-98ABDE2CEBC8.jpg

Oh yeah, that plane is going to be absolutely insane. I fly with a guy down here that is friends with Mike, so I'm hoping I'll get a chance to see it in person. Going to try and go to High Sierra this year, pending wx and work.

Been off the forum too long I see haha.

I know a lot of guys string up hammocks from the tie down to part of the frame in the cabin, but my little short wing doesn't have that as an option. My buddy up here has an experimental PA-12 that has a flat floor and when you pop the back seat out you can sleep in the plane, it's real handy.

A device attached to the top of your truck the people suffering from FOTG (Fear Of The Ground) use. I wonder what folks with FOTG, claustrophobia, and fear of heights do?

We need to ask Mike Patey to come up with a Roof Top Tent, because Genius! lol. You're doing it right nut. Nice looking plane and setup.

I mean, he technically has one; it just takes a rocket going off to deploy it.
