    Gravity fed fuel tank?

Fuel leaking past the float? Crankcase is full of gas instead of oil?

I'm just kidding around here. Seriously, though, I have that t shirt. Small engines have a fuel shut off for a reason.

She is 75 years old. The fact that she runs fairly reliably is good enough for me. I only use her in the garage and dooryard so a 200 foot round trip is an exceptionally long one. She will really smoke after sitting at an idle for a bit.

I did finally have to break down and spend hard cash on her a few years ago -- 4 new spark plugs, the ones I took out covered 3 brands for 4 cylinders. I went to Auto Zone and asked the girl for spark plugs for a 1946 Towmotor LT40, after a blank stare and not finding it in the computer she asked me if it was a boat. :notsure:

The engine is a Continental flat head.

Jim and Wayne at the local Oreilly auto parts will still look stuff up in the book if they need too. The others don’t know what the books are for.

Jim is older, I went there last year needing a set of points for a Farmall 140, he stared at me for a minute and walked away. Came back with a box, they fit perfect :D

I am always hearing the Oh, Oh, O'Reilly Auto Parts commercials on the local radio and got curious where they were located.
The nearest one is 150 miles away. :notsure:

I got a car that does that at idle I'll sell ya to match the smokin' lift :spy::rofl:

While I have satellite radio in the Tacoma, I'll be forced to listen to FM when driving the Camry or others. I'll hear an O'Reilly commercial atleast once per trip on a station based out of North Central Maryland. The nearest one for that radio station is in Virginia! Thought that was kinda odd. I do have one sorta near me in Bedford, PA, but I haven't been there yet. I have a Carquest and Autozone right here in my little town. Used to be a Napa, but the older guy who owned it decided to say the Hell with it. Store is still full of stuff!

There’s an Advance Auto 2 miles from my house. I usually drive 8 to get to O’reilly.

I went to advance not too long ago for wiper blades on the Duramax. I carried an old one with me and matched it up. By the time the guy got done looking it up I had already checked out and heading for the door.

    How dangerous is Carbon Monoxide?

There are three things that make carbon monoxide extremely dangerous: 1) The molecules of carbon monoxide are so small, they can easily travel through drywall; 2) Carbon monoxide doesn’t sink or rise – it mixes easily with the air inside a home; 3) It is an odorless gas, so without an alarm to notify you that it is in your home, you likely wouldn’t notice until it was too late. These three traits combined is what gives carbon monoxide the title of, “The Silent Killer.”

I did the same for my brother joe today. Mowed the school softball field and half of the school yard and then noticed joes wife was helping and then standing next to her Kubota… tire went flat and came off the rim…. Here take mine and I’ll take the broke one and fix the tire…. Cleaned the beads and popped it back on… always something  I just can’t compliment enough on how much beer goes with a diesel mower :D

Another danger factor is that CO binds to hemoglobin much more readily than oxygen.

Cut & broke off some stuff.
    dang safety switches...
    JD X500 lawn mower.
    Think I figured it out.
PTO wouldn't engage sometimes after I had stopped the mower to jump off & kick toys out of the way or something. Flip PTO switch on/off a few times, bounce around, drive back/forth a few times, then PTO would work.

In trying to figure out the issue, I found 2 safety switches sticking. Seat and brake pedal.
Sometimes I can stand-up without the tractor stalling so seat switch is obvious there. I think one on brake pedal arm might have been sticking closed after releasing parking brake and it was what was preventing PTO from engaging.

I assume these little pressure switches are just gummed up with years of fine dust and cleaning them might get them sliding properly again. Sprayed the brake switch with some QD Electrical cleaner and haven't had issue with PTO last 3 times out.
Can't figure out how to remove the seat switch from seat. I assume it's a simple pressure switch though. Back of it looks like a twist & pull type connector to get out of the seat base but no luck.

You all think cleaning is good enough on these switches or should I expect failure and just replace them as preventative measure?

I forgot about this mower. About 15 years ago my uncle gave me a craftsman mower with a Kohler 14hp engine. The mower was shot but the engine was good.

Not long after my bosses dad threw a rod in the Briggs on this snapper.

He ask me about an engine, long story short I put the one I had on this for him.

Today my boss brought it in for me to look at, he said it runs great until it gets hot then it shuts off.

    Reckon it’s the coil?

The iconic Snapper Comet. I believe that the Command 14 HP is larger than the original engine, must not ever bog down.

Pull the blower housing off, might be full of crap making the coil too hot.

Yes it had an 8hp B & S on it, he said he can mow at half throttle now :D

The bolt pattern was the same I just had to rotate it 90 degrees because of the exhaust and make the extension for the bagger poles. He still uses the bagger.
