What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Fox hose length sucks. Where they want them to be is in a pretty vulnerable place in my opinion. Mine are tucked behind my skid plate for now until I can come up with something better. Honestly wouldn't be bad except there's all the heat from the engine bay trapped in there.

Did you check to make sure the ring is actually mating with the seal? We are talking rear axle right?

I don't think it's necessary. You may need a dremel to get a socket back on the plug at some point though. You would hand to hit a rock at speed to do any detrimental damage to it.

@Squeaky Penguin removed one or two of the lower studs and used bolts as plugs. Drains out those holes.

 

Mind slides over rocks pretty well too.

That just replaces the rear cover, which is thiner, but I've never had a problem. It's the drain plug that's the issues IMO. I had drug mine so much I was starting to loosen the drain plug when I hit a rock. I had a couple close calls to loosing all my oil.

Just replaced the bottom two studs with bolts to drain.

Pulled the tired engine out today. Gonna be painting the engine bay matte black, cleaning up some wiring, and doing a refresh on the trans/T-case as well.

 

Just had a special delivery at home. Look at that underside of the bed! Not a lock of rust. Couldn’t be happier.

 

Did you remove the transmission 1st?
Both headers and cross over pipe were left on the engine?

That was always the saying in the weld shop at work. Don't want galvanic poisoning? Filter it through a cigarette. Didn't work but I had someone else to pass galvanized welding off to lol

 

trans is still in the truck. I know the FSM says to remove it in step one of the engine removal process, but I left it in. Both headers and crossover we’re on during removal.

Haha, I did the same thing at my wedding when we were doing photos. Had to get one with the truck in it.

 

I work part time at a powder coating shop at nights for extra Taco money.
The owner let do my skidd plate, while I had it off I changed the oil

 

I'm running the rear diff armor, it's beefy as shit. I got it after I started playing in some larger rock fields and kept bashing the rear of the diff when I needed to back up and try to find different lines.

I still am running the tacks that @ToyRyd04 did in the parking lot when we saw it happening to both of our trucks... in 2017. I've just been pumping the oil out in the meantime, but it's been on my list.

You ended up welding your frame back together right? I think that was you. Congrats!
