Hi guys so my Tacoma won’t accelerate past 83mph, has the ripp coil pack, but that’s the only thing that it has. It’s bugging me and there isn’t anything out there that says what it could be so help me out? It’s a 2018 TRD OFF ROAD

    Welcome to TW

What size tires are you running?

    Manual or Automatic transmission?

Why did you install Ripp Coil Packs?

West Texas roads are posted 80 mph, but all that does is empty the gas tank faster! When you see "next gas station 200 miles," best to keep it under 70.

Is it limited on speed somehow, that truck will go way faster then that.
My ‘17 3/4 ton truck is limited to 98 mph, and that’s fine by me, how often do I need to go a hundred miles an hour....... in a 4 ton truck.

Did you install higher compression pistons or different cams? If not I'm suspecting the coil packs. OEM are usually fine and are metered perfectly for the stock engine.

I live near a really nice 2 mile section of straight open road. A friend of mine was running radar and I happened to hear his call to dispatch "send another car and a tow truck some one is going to jail" Yes 104 MPH in a 55 in a Tacoma! Yes that is considered criminal speed.

If you didn’t buy it new, maybe it was a fleet vehicle.

Tires are often times what determines where the manufacturer sets the vehicle's speed limit

Everyone always said these things don’t move. Mine goes pretty good from 80-100ish mph. Guess no one has a stock truck.

Well my 2017 did anyway. Still breaking in the ‘21.

Did the same thing yesterday to pass someone while loaded with a full bed and RTT. She moves well at speed.

Do you have any check engine lights or anything? If you have a flashing light (active misfire) and it won't go over a certain RPM, likely your catalytic converter is clogged. I wouldn't think this would be the case with such a new truck, but it's still a possibility. Otherwise I'd say take out the ripp coil pack and return to stock and report back the results.

    It’s a truck, not a Porsche.

My tune was done by @TWTaco a few years back. They have a thread for it, cost a little but fixes a few issues. Since then they’ve had improvements. Been meaning to hit him up for a updated version.
