think you’d need to trim some off the bottom if you put that monster on 35s, looks like the ladder would drag at the very least.

Not a fan at all. The pricing is attractive, but resale will undoubtedly drop like a rock. Reliability will be a huge question mark too as Ford isn't known for that. It looks like Nintendo designed the truck. Don't like it at all. The release of this is Ford already admitting the Ranger was a flop.

I think all of your points are true, except the Ranger being a flop. The Ranger is in 2nd place for mid size pickups.

    https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2021-us-pickup-truck-sales-figures-by-model/

The Maverick is the first small pickup available in the US in decades, and IMO isn't even in the same class as the Tacoma, Ranger, Frontier, etc. Ford will own the small truck market. How big that market is remains to be seen. With a $20K entry point, good gas milage, and good utility it will surely attract some people that wouldn't consider a truck. Others, like myself, will be attracted because we don't need a big truck like the Tacoma.

Bottom line - I hope the Maverick is a run away success. I hope it steals market share from all car and truck categories. Not because I'm a Maverick fanboy, but because I'm a consumer. Fierce competition is better for everyone.

Competition improves the breed, and right now the compact breed is a dead dog and the midsize segment is a farting old chocolate lab.

Maybe I just feel that way because I barely see any Rangers on the road. I’m not seeing them where I’m at.

Come down here. They're fighting it out with Chevy Colorados for "fleet vehicle of choice" for discount auto parts chains.

Meanwhile, Terminix and Orkin are still rocking their stock SR AC Tacos.

Saying it's not a flop because it's in second place is a bit misleading when it's moving less than half the volume though lol. That's a pretty fucking distant second.

I would. I LOVE the size of my '99 and would buy one new if I could. Missing locker and all, it has been a GREAT vehicle.

I agree. I love my 99. But I think you’re in an extreme minority of people when you back to back test drive a new, quiet, feature-rich vehicle vs ours.

I agree, most people want a feature rich vehicle that even does the driving for them. Seems a shame. Some of us still like to drive.
In regards to feature rich, I find it odd that cars are even allowed to have screens in them. Adding a 7" color screen with social media apps to a semi auto rifle or tablsaw seems like a stupid idea, but somehow in a car it doesn't. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

I would really like a Jimny too. No diesel toyota pickups for us, no Jimnys, not even access cab, manual OR Tacos here! DAMN!

Good info! Last I looked was a few years ago when I realized my Mazda b2300 had a bigger payload than my buddies Tundra. Looks like Toyota still trails the pack pretty badly.

    I test drove the Ranger.

    Pro's Acceleration & gas mileage.
    Better load capacity.

Con's - that EcoBoost 2.3 is a great 100,000 engine. The early EcoBoost 2.3 needs walnut blasting of intake valves (about $600 on the 2.3).

Overall I liked the Ranger. It was either a 5' bed with DC or AC with a 6' bed. I really wanted DC (room for the dogs) and a 6' bed (room for me to sleep in there). DCLB sucks for off-roading, but I tend to stick to easy trails but have sliders due to the length of my wheelbase.

Shoot with used car prices the way they are… we are going in tomorrow to trade our 3 and 4 year old cars with 50 and 60k miles in on a new one with no payments at all! All of a sudden we have a brand new truck with all our options with better fuel economy without compromise plus an extra $485/month with no car payment necessary!

From the driver's perspective the cab will be very similar size wise to a Tacoma. Maverick is a bit more narrow with a little more head room. Legroom is identical. The rear seat offers an extra 4 inches or so legroom and more headroom compared to a double cab Tacoma.

It's like ford just saw a press release for the 2005 ridgeline and thought "we need to compete with this".
