I think the all star race should only have the drivers that won a race from the previous year, not the current year, not past champions.

Last year winners, and top 15 in points, maybe top 10, then fan favorite and open winner.

Not arguing for or against current year winner's inclusion but I suspect it's rarely more than 1 or 2 new drivers in the current year vs. previous year.

Disclaimer: too lazy to do the research on above speculation.

I love me Sammy Haggar but NASCAR only goes for cheap talent. Be it because they're unheard of or 20yrs past relevance.

I can’t tell what’s going on at all but watching Chase Elliott block William Byron 7 times between turn 4 and turn 1 was a hoot!

How to fix the All-Star Race:

Now that we're going to flange-fit bodies, pick a decade, era, or specific year and run throwback bodies. The team engineers wouldn't have any data to rely on for aero setups. Imagine a fleet of '87 T-Bird's, Monte Carlo's, and Celica GTO's running around the track for one night. The racing might suck, but it might suck good. At the least, it would look fun on TV.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
I think Chad has figured out that the engineers at HMS set the cars up however they want and pretty much tell the drivers to deal with it or figure out how to drive it. That is the only thing that makes sense. Also explains why the 9 with an old school crew chief is getting smoked by the younger ones. Seems they are treating the drivers like nothing more than a wheel man and saying "look, the car is fast. Figure out how to get it around the track". Of course having a wheel man like Larson only helps that approach. If you listen to the radio for the 5, 24 and 48. The driver gives very little feedback and the crew chief does not ask them for an opinion. Good for them but I think that is what is going on.

If you think about it that is why the 48 had all that success. Chad made the car the best it could be and told Jimmy to figure out how to drive it.

Congrats to Larson. Dude is owning the sport right now and I do not see that slowing down anytime soon.

100% agree. Alex Bowman was supposed the be the next coming of Jimmie Johnson. He has good talent but will only be a journeyman driver. Too bad for the kid. Very tough shoes to never fill.

Chad was smart to walk away as pit boss. Bryon is no Gordon either. HMS will be just fine though. Chad is still circling HMS and Jeff is on his way in soon. HMS is sitting very pretty with Laron on top and the 9 car will get his act together. May not make top 4 but he'll do fine in the playoffs

I promise you, there is no panic or concern at HMS. They are sitting in the cat birds seat!

oh yeah- JR alluded to this about a month ago regarding Bowman. He said the kid will hop in the car and do exactly what the CC tells him to do with no pushback. JR. Said he himself pushed back too much and should’ve been more flexible when he was a driver.

Can't say I agree. Having a slightly larger field makes it more interesting even though passing sucks with this current package.

As for the SRX guys, those cars have far different dynamics than the cup cars which allowed that to happen.

Probably more of a Texas thing. Much better than the latest niche pop stars that the Super Bowl always seems to target.

I'll tune in via radio this weekend as I'll be way up in the mountains. Looking forward to seeing the highlights on Monday.
