I'm about to buy my first Taco and am searching high and low, but before I buy, I want to get the best bang for the buck and buy right so to speak. If you had a SR5 TRD V6 Manual in front of you from every year of the 1st Gen taco's which year would you buy and why?

Everyone is going to say 2004 tacoma. I think 2004 was the best year.

01-04 are pretty much the exact same, so you might as well get the newest possible.
2000 is a little different, so if you prefer that body style, go for that.

My 2001 doesn't have a handle above your head like the 2002s and up IIRC. Other than that and color matched fenders, they are exactly the same.

5100's all around, 2.75 inch lift, polyurethane body mounts, gibson exhaust, variation of the deckplate mod, intake resonators removed 285-75-16 goodyear AT
I'd buy whichever year didn't come with anti-lock brakes and had an LSD as an option.

I believe it was optional in 2001 and 02, and became standard in 2003, IIRC.

I have an 01 without ABS, and I am quite happy about that.

I believe that later ones, 03, 04, had more electronic throttle control stuff, but that is just what I have learned here, I don't have direct experience with it.

Call me old school, but the less electronic stuff and the more direct connection with the vehicle, the better, IMO.

All things being equal, I'd rather have an 01 from California than an 04 from Vermont or any long winter/snow place.

An 04 with 100,000 miles is high mileage in my opinion. Can't go wrong looks wise with 01-04. I have an 04 with 52,000 miles and love it:)

i agree with the 01-04, but considering they all have the same milage, id go with the 01 or 02 cuz it was driven the least given its had a longer time to rack up the miles
