Hard to hate on the lift you chose, hope it performs well!

Thanks. I changed the wheels and tires immediately after buying and 4WP had a “buy wheels and tires get a free lift” deal going on so I took advantage of it. Just treating it like a mock-up for now.

Just purchased my wheels & tires from custom offsets.

    Wheels:
    Mickey Thompson Classic 3: 17x9 (-12 offset, 3/4.5 backspacing)
    $880

    Tires:
    Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ P3: (285/70 r17)
    $1100

Saw another user on the forum with a '21 and the same suspension lift I bought with these same specs. He didn't have much rubbing at all, no CMC.

Fingers crossed things work out for me!

Dropped the truck off today for a full ceramic tint & was able to compare some 33" wheels next to the stock. Definitely will help fill the wheel wells after lifting 3 inches. Stand alone, these 33s look huge, but next to the truck they're just right.

I’m running the same size and rims and I have a 3”/2” leveling kit with no rubbing. Your in the clear.

Good to hear @adauto10 - care to post some pics of the truck in the thread?

Also what wheel specs are you running? 17x9 with -12 offset?

I really think you'll need a CMC. You MIGHT could get away without it, I've heard some folks do, but I wouldn't count on it. I don't think there's any way my 285s would fit without a CMC. I off road though. Lot's of shops do CMCs now.

Honestly i have no clue about the offset or anything about the specs. I bought them second hand for a deal. I did instal 1.5” spacers and did a cab mount chop but before i did the chop and spacers they ran fine with no rubbing.

100% agree. I think that when many people say “no rubbing” they mean that they can turn the wheels left and right on flat ground. I can not understand how 285s would fit with zero cutting/trimming if you do even slight off-reading. These trucks are all made to the exact same specification, it’s not like some people get lucky and have 2 more inches of fender room.

@JCH Ill keep you all updated on how things go. Wheels / tires are ordered and should arrive in 2-3 weeks, waiting on front suspension components to arrive as well.

You have a great point - these trucks are made to the same specs. Ive opted for the same wheel / tire specs as another Tacoma owner running the Ironman 4x4 3" lift.

I am put off by a CMC and cutting into the frame of my brand new truck. I also am uneducated in that area and not really sure what and/or if there are long term consequences from a CMC.

You may get them to be fine on road. Which a lot have. But the guys that say that did nothing, don’t run ucas and have zero rub aren’t being honest. With 285s and the wheel choice you’ve chosen if you do any decent off road adventures they’re gonna rub. Good luck and post up some pics when done.

@JCH I think wheel specs have a big play in rub / non rub. The Offset, Backspacing and wheel diameter are a big factor! Hoping that mimicking the specs of another with success running 285s will work out.

I guess I'll prepare to trim but hoping for the best.

Any insight on a CMC? Good / bad / ugly?

@gotoman1969 I definitely will keep the thread updated. I appreciate everyone's input. This is my first truck & new vehicle, it's been a lot of fun getting started. I bought the SR to save some $$, and have already ordered $6k in parts

For minor trimming (plastic) most agree that it’s not much of a big deal. As far as the CMC I have never done it myself. If it ends up being necessary and is more than you are comfortable with, you’ll have no problem selling those tires for a small loss. Also, congrats on the new truck! Looks like you’re well on your way to a sweet build.

I mean, yeah, they are a factor, but hundreds of folks on here run 285s and had to do the CMC. It’s an easy mod if you have a good shop.

You're for sure going to rub if you use those ucas and need . They state 5° of increased caster which is going to move your wheel "back" in the wheel well causing to to hit your cab mount for sure. I have the OME ucas which I believe were 2° of caster. Prior to installing them my 285's didn't rub the cab mount but as soon as the ucas were installed they rubbed the cab mount hard.
I planned on doing my own CMC anyways so it wasn't a problem for me.
Just know that the purpose in installing ucas is not so you don't rub it's to get your alignment closer to spec after lifting.
-12 or -10 is the wheel offset you want for sure.
You really don't need the ucas. I personally wheel mine in Colorado so I wanted the beefier ucas and also want my truck to be as close to factory spec alignment as possible.
Mine has zero rub now but without a CMC it would have never happened, if you actually are going to use it on trails don't believe anyone who tells you different.
Plus a CMC really isn't a big deal if you own a welder and I think shops only charge people a couple hundred to do it.

@Jose_Dirte thank you for the response here man, I appreciate it. I'm trying to learn more about what a CMC does and potential long term hazards to look out for. From the thread and online it seems like it isn't as big of a deal than I originally thought.

The place installing my truck is a truck uplifting company, and they said it wouldn't be an issue if they have to do one. Anything I should look out for / ask for IF this is needed?

I've read a 1/8th inch plate and re-welded then sand / paint to prevent rust. Is there anything else?

Just trying to learn as much as I can and prepare for the likely inevitable lol
