OK, I pride myself in doing a lot of research but for the life of me I cannot find a definitive answer if the current TRD exhaust fits a DCLB. Part #PTR03-35190. Some sites say the exhaust only fits short beds. Others list all models but I know the pipe leading into the muffler on the long beds is longer from videos I've watched on MBRP exhaust installs. They are built for the long bed and you have to cut off 12 or 13 inches if you have a short bed. I even asked the parts guy at my local Toyota dealer and he said it's the same part number for both SB and LB, but that doesn't jive with what I've seen with my own two eyes. Before you all start to tell me the TRD exhaust is a waste of money because you don't get any performance out of it, well, all I'm looking for is a little better tone. :) Any insight would be appreciated.

Read about the black tips being discolored very quickly. Especially without a mudflap.

After researching like crazy and talking to the parts guy at my local Toyota dealer when picking up my bed mat I discovered Toyota only makes the chrome tipped TRD exhaust for the Tacoma long bed. The short beds have both chrome and black chrome options. Needless to say, I'm a little disappointed. Might have to get the chrome one and have the tip black chromed. :notsure:

When I looked into it about a week ago, the parts guy at Tustin Toyota said that the TRD exhaust is not available for LB with the black tip, only with the chrome. I ended up ordering Borla’s catback with black chrome - you have to buy an additional extension pipe for the LB. Just installed it this morning (no lift, one guy) without any problem. Super easy. Exhaust sounds great, but honestly just a bit louder than I expected given what I’d read. Real quiet when you’re at cruising speed on the highway.

Remember that the TRD exhaust, regardless of chassis, is one piece. If you were to re-chrome the tip, you will have to cut it off and weld it back on.

Maybe look for a used TRD short chassis exhaust with a black tip and have your muffler shop weld in an extension to make it fit.

That's a good call, which could work. Either way I'm looking at an extra expense. I may just go with the chrome one and deal with it. :) Local dealer is $682.00 but I'm sure there will be a 4th of July sale.

Borla tends to be fairly loud. Nice tone but loud. I'm too old for that. :)

    Doooeeet!

I can’t recall anyone having any discoloration with the silver tips compared to the black tips. Whatever black coating is on the TRD tips, it discolored fast.

The TRD is the only exhaust that is actually stainless steel, is that correct? I've been thinking of getting an exhaust and was told to go stainless steel by some friends, but my local shops all have said that they don't bend stainless steel and would just install a Borla, Magnaflow or MBRP setup, and those are all alloy steel I believe?

The TRD system, at the least, is one piece exhaust made out of “premium” stainless steel. There are different version of stainless steel which all of them are harder to work with compared to steel.

Sounds like you are a fan of the TRD exhaust. :) I'm 99% sure I'll just go with the chrome and call it good. Now I wait to see if there is a 4th of July sale. :fingerscrossed:

Don't do it. Sounds like crap. I'd just about give my TRD exhaust away for someone to pay for a stock exhaust install.
