Anyone know what this is? Truck is about a week old from the dealer. Was driving and this just fell off it’s sticky tape near the OBD sensor area.

tried googling the part number but nothing came up

I'll have to look to see if I have that, but I'm curious if it's one of those pulse brake light flashers that dealers add-on as a "safety" feature. Seems odd that the part number didn't show up anywhere.

GPS Tracker, in case they need to find and repossess your ride. Check the fine print of your loan/finance document before you remove it, as removing it might invoke a revocation clause in your financial agreement.

Its a LoJack from the dealer. Don't be surprised if it is connected with those POS crimp on connectors that slice through the wire jacket.

Silly dealer. Toyota's have tracking built-in!

Typically those are done with "higher credit risk*" to make it easier to find the car to the repo. Just leave it in place; often, you sign something in the contract that, if lost, you are liable for replacement and penalty. Do ask your insurance agent for a discount if anti-theft/tracking is installed, providing a photo of the device.

Keep it installed. Keep the photo. If the truck is ever stolen, give that information to the Police immediately.

Years back, a tow truck pulled up and snagged a brand new pickup (about 6 months old). The tow truck driver yelled "repo man" and took off. The truck's owner came running out, trying to get a description or plate of the tow truck. He had paid cash! It was a flat-out 6 AM theft. Police recovered the frame and most of the body; the chop shop had parted it. Hassle with insurance (brand new chevy, but depreciated the moment it drove off the lot).

Look for "VHB TAPE" to stick it back in place. Good 3M stuff; if it fell out, they used the cheap stuff.

    *higher risk credit:
My daughter bought her first car in California. The catch was a good job, but the previous two years were in NY. Neither Honda nor Toyota would make a loan for her! No credit history other than a credit card but moving NY to CA, nope. The only one that extended credit was Chrysler Corp. Hence a Leased Jeep! 2.4 Fiat Liter Engine sucked quart every 1000 miles. Jatco Transmission (worst CVT ever built) also fitted. I told her don't drive it but at 3 years turn it back in. The local dealer wouldn't accept it unless she leased another. Poppa Bear got involved and Chrysler Corporate said "no problem, drop with keys at this dealer". I would have much preferred her to have a Toyota with a tracking device! (Oh she replaced the Jeep with a VW, yes very headstrong and independent).

Oh, that oil-burning Jeep does shut down the fuel pump when oil is low. Left her stranded with 2500 miles on the vehicle. Towed into the dealer, they topped off her oil, and off she went in that POS!

edited: VHB, not UHB (tape, radios, meh, not even a Monday) and few typos

The ones we use in our fleet vehicles stick straight into the OBD2 port. I've kicked one loose with my boot before on accident, and every other time I go in for service the dealer chucks it on the floorboard and forgets to plug it back in.

I have something similar in mine when i installed the N2 designs remote starter, its the GPS module for remote starting via cell phone app. So like others have said, its some kind of starter/tracking device but it uses a cell signal

Drive onto a bridge, break it in half and chuck it into the water. That's what they do in the movies anyways.

The fallback mode for most GPS devices is Cell Tower Triangulation when they can't get good GPS signal, but most GPS devices communicate via cell network in order to tell the monitoring company where the vehicle is.

It is called VHB tape. Do not use on things you do not want removed. This video of them testing is a classic.

Wrap it in aluminum baking foil, stick it back under the dash. Wait.

If its important, then someone will make contact about the "loss of signal".

Unplug it and see if "the man" comes knocking at your door.
