OV tune

If I already installed OV tune do I need to re tune if I install a catback after the fact.

 

No. The ECU will adapt where needed.

Hey, since you use and know OV tune very well have you ever used the standard stock 87thx tune? And if so did you really notice much difference or are the real benefits using the 93thx. I just don’t feel much difference with the 87. One of these days I will actually play around with the editing but don’t have time yet. Any input will help

 

I’m still trying to get a bit more low end but don’t think the 87hx will do much

 

I have an MT, so no Thx tunes here.

That said, most folks that I have talked with have said that non-Thx is better. Also, folks that were running Thx and I noted that experience had found the same.

Still though, flash up tunes at will to see what works best for you. That is what I did when I got the Flash Kit.


On 87 versus 91+ and the 2.0 Tunes, I have felt a large difference there and also get an MPG bump big enough to cover the fuel cost difference. I was never unhappy when running 87 though.

 

More low end will come with the Perf and Tow tunes. Also, do the easy edit of maximizing the 1st gear and Reverse torque limits.

Making the top four maps 100% across the board will make a big change. I have not tried editing the lower group yet:

Another quick question since I’ve never edited before. I want to try the throttle one you sent me so do I just copy one of the tunes and edit it. Like the current 87thx one I’m using

 

Yes. But, if you are starting with a VFT file, it will automatically copy itself as a VFC file when you hit save.


Those edits are the best ones to test drive editing with. If you want, the speedo limiter and tire size are similarly easy. The tire size is a nice global edit on the AT. Keeps it really happy.

 

So then one I do the throttle edits I just flash the VFC file instead right?

 

And I have stock tires so will that edit matter?

 

Yes. Flash the newly created file. Of course, if it makes more sense to you to create a copy first, then do that. It is a good practice.

If you are completely Stock, then you do not need to make a change here. If you do anything beyond a stock tire size or sidewall rating down the road, this will be one of the first things that you'll want to do though. Going a bit bigger in the tune keeps the AT happy.


I have a couple guys with 33s on a 37in tire tune just to account for weight.
