..^^^... I have seen this in Singapore .... caning only applies to 49 years old and younger .... very little street crime there and you get to keep your fingers. :)

You can walk the streets (at most times) there without of being mugged, stabbed or shot (not like here in ATL now).

We moved out the the city area for that reason.

The caning I saw there was on the butt in a very prescribed place ... with pads around the area to be caned.

I saw a mild form of caning when I was in Junior High School too  (but with a big paddle) ... lol

This reminded me of the American teenager who was caught vandalizing cars in Singapore.

I vaguely remember the dad being all over the news and crying for someone, ANYONE to save his poor innocent little man from this savage form of human disfigurement loosely disguised as punishment.

And then when they caned him anyway, the American media was waiting with bated breath to hear him tell of how he was one of only a few who actually survived the inhumanly painful and torturous ordeal, with blood and chunks of his flesh strewn wildly about the room with each stroke.

Oh, why would they do such a thing to such a Saint?

I'll bet he thought twice about spray painting any more cars after that.

Already on the books here in GA, and I'd imagine other states have similar laws.

Just have to do some offroading in the desert with an open eye. I've found piles of drugs out there twice now. Ran into border patrol shortly after both times, who explained that the cartels use people crossing illegally as mules. When they see border patrol they ditch the drugs in the rocks and run. If they're caught with them it's a drug charge, if they're caught without they'll be released in a few hours. I imagine it's probably similar crossing in a boat.

In my neck of the woods you have to buy your stolen item back from the pawn shop. And, let's not even get started on the metal "recyclers" buying stolen cats.

    Sure.

Point was simply that the law exists. Just doesn't seem to see enough enforcement to dissuade anyone.

    LOL...

Petition to Stop Jeff Bezos Re-Entering Earth After Space Flight Signed by Thousands

A petition set up to stop Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos from being allowed to re-enter Earth after his upcoming space flight has been signed by close to 7,000 people.

Blue Origin, the rocket company owned by Bezos, announced on June 7 that the Amazon CEO and his brother, Mark, would be two of three people launching to 62 miles above the Earth's surface, aboard the company's first human flight on July 20.

The trip, which will be on the company's New Shepard spacecraft, will occur 15 days after Bezos steps down as Amazon's CEO—a role he has served in for 27 years.

Several social media users responded jokingly to the news. While on Thursday, June 10, a petition was set up on Change.Org by user Jose Ortiz, who titled it: "Petition To Not Allow Jeff Bezos Re-Entry To Earth."

"Jeff Bezos is actually Lex Luthor, disguised as the supposed owner of a super successful online retail store," Ortiz jokingly wrote in the petition, in reference to the DC Comics character that Bezos is often likened to. "However, he's actually an evil overlord hellbent on global domination."

Ortiz concluded the petition: "Sign the petition. Share with your friends and family. The fate of humanity is in your hands."

At the time of writing, the petition has been signed by 6,832 people, of the initial target of 7,500, with several users explaining why they supported the petition. One person wrote: "Do not come back take Elon with you," in reference to Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and rocket company SpaceX.

Bezos and his brother will be joined by a mystery individual on the flight on July 20, after someone paid $28 million at an auction that attracted interest from more than 140 countries.

Prior to the auction on Saturday, June 12, the top bid stood at $5 million, but that figure quickly increased by nearly five times that amount, before it concluded later in the day.

Blue Origin tweeted that the identity of the winner will be revealed in the next few weeks and confirmed that the $28 million will be donated to Club for the Future, a charity run by the organization that hopes "to inspire future generations to pursue careers in STEM," according to its website.

Bezos, his brother and the mystery bidder will have to endure up to 5.5 gs of force during the rocket-powered ascent, according to Blue Origin's terms and conditions. The rocket will reach 328,000 feet before coming back to Earth on July 20th, but the 11 minute flight will not include a pilot as it is autonomous.

New Shepard, which is named after the first American to travel to space, Alan Shepard, is Blue Origin's reusable launch vehicle.

The company's rocket has been designed to eventually take astronauts and research payloads past the internationally recognized boundary of space, known as the Kármán line.

Newsweek has contacted Blue Origin and Amazon for comment on the petition.

I've used stronger words, but stupid works.

In my state the politicians are for sale and the pawn industry pays them well.
Here's one example. It's old but the laws haven't changed

Georgia and Utah are different places. Pawn shops here live by a different set of laws. In my case a laptop computer was stolen from my work. It was clearly labeled as belonging to my company, but in order to get it back we had to pay the pawn shop for it. If the pawn shop had to eat the loss when buying stolen items they would be less likely to buy stolen goods.

They're removing the hive from our 165 year-old lodge building. It's slow going. They can't get the queen out because she's stuck behind 12" of historic limestone.

Utah has a similar possession of stolen property law as the GA I posted - see https://codes.findlaw.com/ut/title-76-utah-criminal-code/ut-code-sect-76-6-408.html

The tough part is proving they knew or should have known - as well as potentially differing laws on what happens when and item is located. I'm not sure what the specifics are for GA - definitely sucks what you had to go through.

That was my suggestion, and the one we may end up having to go with because we can't disassemble the 20' wall to get at her.

    Sorry Queenie.
