I'll be doing the WABDR (South to North) June 19th-27th (roughly a week from now) if any last minute joiners! I've currently got 2 rigs, not including myself, coming along. DM me for more information.

@Astr0Aar0n made it at least to Nile as of Sunday Afternoon. He and his friend took section 1 on Saturday, and met up with me and @TheOnlyPajooned on Sunday afternoon on Bethel Ridge where we had been camping. We followed them through to Nile. Was a great time, wished we could have kept on to Ellensburg but didn't have the time.

Could you share a link to that group or pm it? I'm trying to find current conditions/trail reports for section 1.

I ran some of the BDR from Twisp southward to Plain last weekend, didn't strictly follow the BDR route but people have put in a ton of work cutting blowdown, didn't have to start the saw up once. I don't think i quite brought ALL of the dust home in my interior, i must have left atleast a little for you guys! Have Fun!

just buy a Bafeng, and use MURS. dont need any lic. The ham test isnt hard either but will grant you much more capability and more bands to play with

I have a baofeng and have used the FRS/GMRS quite a bit with no license of any kind. They use the same frequencies as walkie talkies (2-way radios)

He's looking for LEGAL, though. Baofeng isn't legal running the GMRS/FRS frequencies, even though they have the ability to. The wattage is too high, and the radio also has a removable antenna. I haven't picked up my license for GMRS yet, but will soon. I'm already running HAM, which I think the license for that is a much better deal. The test is easy using one of those Apps to study. Unfortunately, not many folks seem to have a license. And no, I'm not telling everyone to stop running their GMRS without a license or anything, just saying he was looking for a LEGAL way to do it.

    BTW, @vecdran , how's the clutch?

What I was reading is that the wattage is too high to run without a GMRS license. 0.5 watts is the unlicensed legal limit, while a GMRS license will allow you to transmit on those frequencies up to 50 watts (except on channels 8-14, which are capped at 0.5w tranmsission), so the UV-5R would be fine licensed.

    https://midlandusa.com/6-things-you-should-know-about-fcc-changes-for-frs-and-gmrs-radios/

    Edit:
Ok, I understand now. UV-5R is a Part 97 Ham radio device, not a Part 95, so it's "illegal" to transmit on FRS/GMRS even though it has the capability of doing so.

    No longer stinky.
Might have been ATRAC, since I had that on for a while and didn't notice it. I forget the smell difference between toasty brake pad compound and clutch...
