How long did you have to wait for your factory 2022 order/request/whatever it is called?

Hey folks,

I thought I would kick this off since it looks like my 2021 is going to be a 2022.

As of today, 6/8/2021, I put in a 'request' for a 2022 DCSB TRDOR, Manual, Super White, Tech Package, and no other options. While this is not a price thread-Toyota has not released the pricing for 2022.

Just to clarify my experience, and what you will find in other threads-Toyota dealers do not 'order' inventory. Dealers put in 'requests' for configurations with the 'hope' Toyota will build it- and these requests are satisfied first come first serve. I am unsure about how dealer volume affects this. These configurations cannot really be changed other than colors or port add-ons. Some folks are reporting they get a temporary VIN first followed by a real VIN and are even able to track their unit from factory to dealer with the app.

I pulled off the LED lights with the hope that I would get it sooner, and the same goes for Super White vs. Army Green which I had originally planned. I won't budge on the manual.

I am looking forward to replying at some point in the future when I have more information and an updated status.

If I never get the truck, hopefully my consolation prize will be that this thread will be turned into a sticky, get thousands of views and replies, and my sons will think I am somewhat cool.

 

allocation is the key word, it seems.
My allocated DCSB TRD OR took about 6 weeks. They were able to drop all port options and dealer options. They were not able to change the color.
So, I got DCSB TRD OR manual with no additional options for $34,500 otd on 5/29/21

 

I also forgot to report that Blue Crush is now available and as suspected, Lunar Rock. Cement and Voodoo Blue are both gone for 2022.

 

I'm in a similar situation. I have had a deposit on a Lunar Rock Pro since the 3rd week of March. I was told on Monday (6/7) that I only have one more allocation opportunity to get it (which will be the 15th I believe) as Toyota informed the dealer that they will be ending Lunar Rock Pro production and starting the 2022.

With that said, I informed the dealership that if they are not getting my Lunar Rock Pro allocated, to put in a request for one of the first 2022 TRD Pro in MGM ASAP! No electric Lime for me.

Also: if anyone plans on getting a trail edition, id be happy to trade the black TRD wheels and grille for your Bronze trail wheels and grille! lol... but seriously.

I should hear today what my prospects are for a 2021 Pro Lunar Rock. I'm expecting slim and I'll likely need to pivot to 2022 as well. I put a deposit down on 2/18. My dealer has received zero Pro allocations this year.

Looks like I'll be going with black for a 2022 Pro. If Blue Crush was available on the Pro I'd drop the Lunar Rock right now!

 

How exactly are you folks ordering trucks? I called the Internet sales at one of our local Toyota dealers and was told he couldn't help me with that, their stock in shop is what they have.

 

We aren't. You basically go to a dealership of choice, give them a deposit for what you want, then wait for Toyota to allocate that vehicle to them. My understanding (from my sales person) is that twice a month- Toyota sends them a build book of vehicles they can put a request in for. I'm STILL waiting for a Lunar Rock TRD Pro. This coming week will be the last allocation opportunity for one. If they won't get it, I am pivoting to a 2022 Magnetic Gray TRD Pro.

I have been thinking lately that I should have maybe put a deposit down with another dealer in hopes to get one sooner. I may do this for a 2022. I need a TRUCK now!!! haha!

 

2022 Tacoma TRD Pro Electric Lime Green Manual deposit sent through today to reserve one. They are thinking 6 months before they would receive the allocation and I'm first on their list currently.

 

Are you going in blind with pricing. I have been waiting for a lunar rock but I already know that time has passed and every dealer I’ve spoken to says they don’t have pricing just yet to even begin the process for a 2022. The closest I’ve gotten for a date is sometime late this month or July.

 

Just that it will be MSRP and nothing over that. He will send me a prepurchase agreement as soon as pricing is available. I also made sure that my reserve deposit was refundable and they were fine with that up until the point that they receive the allocation. Specified no options, dealer packages, or anything else beyond the trd pro stock setup. Don't want to get roped into a $3k paint package or something along those lines. Reached out to 4 different dealers and they were the only ones willing to let me reserve one and be first in line.

 

Hopefully it all works out well and they can secure one for you. I’ve been checking Toyota’s website and trying to build but it still has 2021 on there and doesn’t offer the Pro for my area so I’m hoping soon it will update and give that option and then hope I can reach back out and make it happen.

 

I would just go ahead and start calling the dealers in your region. There are 4-5 within 2-3 hours of me and of those only one contacted me back asking about setting up a reservation.

 

The last allocation opportunity for a Lunar Rock Pro is the 20th of this month. Fingers are crossed, but like portalgun, I have already informed my dealer that I want the first allocated 2022 TRD Pro they get if I am not getting the Lunar Rock.

My sales guy informed me that I'll likely receive a MGM 2022 TRD Pro, before the Electric lime and that it would likely be about 3 months (which puts it around the 1st-2nd week of Sept). He also mentioned that pricing for the 2022 shouldn't be too far off what the 2021 is and that I am also assured MSRP, nothing higher (but that's only because I've had a deposit/reservation with them since late March).

Definitely start making phone calls and get a refundable deposit in with a dealer asap

 

Thanks for the info. Do you know if the 20th date applies to all trims for the 2021's? I still have 'requests for allocations' in for the 2021 TRDOR manual-but I am not sure if anything will pull. If this is correct this will be the last shot for a built to request Voodoo Blue or Cement (I am not looking at those but thought I would throw it out there). For me-2022 is just fine. I am interested to see how this all works out.

You mentioned MGM will likely go before Electric Lime. Do you have any 'color' (pun intended) on which colors will pull before others? I know you are looking at a Pro but on the other trims any thoughts on options (or lack thereof) slowing things down or speeding them up?

 

I wish I had more info for you. I was only informed by text & phone call that I had missed out on the June 5th allocation and that he was told (by district rep) that the last allocation opportunity for "Lunar Rock" would be June 20th as production for the TRD Pro in Lunar would be ending and that 2022s would start on the next opportunity.

I have no more info other than that. sorry!

Here is my 2022 update as of today. I went to the dealer today to talk to my salesman (and be a kid in a candy store.) I don't think the 2021 orders I have in will pull. He repeated/confirmed Toyota pulls 'requests' twice a month-but they can do so on various dates. Toyota pulled this month's allocation request on Tuesday June 15th-early. I am not sure if this varies by region to region or dealer to dealer.

So-I thought about it and now that I am waiting I am changing back to Army Green and waiting for the LEDs. If for some reason my 2021 allocation request comes in I will just take that instead but I don't think it will.

I did notice-that when we were on the allocation entry system-that Silver Sky is no longer available. It has been replaced by Celestial Silver.

 

This tracks. My dealer told me last week he'd have an answer of whether or not I'd be getting a '21 or '22 on the 20th. He updated me on the 15th that it would be a '21. This is in Canada.
