You do realize BMW stands for "bring more wallet".

Hate to see this, sorry. Possible ignition switch failure?

Looking good can’t wait to see it together. If you find you are missing parts, reach out and I will look through my hoard before you need to go buying any…

It's possible. It appears to not be charging, ran the battery out. I work on it myself but I gotta get it home first. I'll get the battery charged and then get the code reader hooked up to it and start to diagnose it from there, wrecker is here!

You guys know anything about Yamaha Viragos?

I was messaging with my dad about the bike i'm looking to get, and he offered to pay for shipping to send me his Virago. At least I think that's what he has...he moved across the country 7 years ago and he doesn't keep the bike at home so I have no idea if he's still got the same bike or if he got a new one. But he said it's under 200 miles...and free is free...waiting to find out more info on the bike.

wondering if that'd be a maintenance nightmare since it's sat for so much of it's life (if it's the old one he had when he moved), but no clue tbh. Feel free to weigh in. heading out of work now so i may not be back until tomorrow morning.

my initial thought would be its a yamaha, cant be that bad... i would bet with a minimal $$ investment it would fire up.

Sorry to hear it pooped on you. The only real issue I've ever had with my beemer is that the stator went out on me and stopped charging the battery. Sub-$200 replacement and it's been good for the last 10,000 miles. Just replaced the IAC hoses on it today, those were 11 years old and cracking/leaking giving it a bit of a lumpy idle.

Normally I take today off of work every year and go ride out in the national forest, but mother nature had different plans sadly :pout:

Instead I changed the spark plugs, PCV, and cleaned the MAF and TB on the 4Runner, got some taco bell for lunch, then tore the BMW half apart to replace a few hoses buried deep in the bowels under the airbox. Solid day in the garage at least.

Time for dinner with the misses, now.

If it was running when he left it, and he kept rust out of the tank, should fire right up. Then you’d own a Virago.

Yes, it only has a side stand, never had a center stand.

You'll have to settle for a picture of it in the garage. I need to sort out what to do for a tank bag and a rear bag/box for stashing my riding gear in. My 750GS had a lot of storage and looked good doing it, trying to decide how this new 1250R will end up. My Giant Loop tank bag won't work on the 1250 so I tossed on an old Wolfman for now.

I decided to get a better street/your bike and a separate lighter weight 250-450cc Enduro for the off-road fun. The 750 could do it all in one bike but wasn't great at any of it as a result. It still spent half it's miles on dirt but those miles would've been more fun and easier on a bike weighing 200lbs less.

“For fun” raced my buddy in his 5.7 Dodge Challenger today. Wasn’t even in Sport mode and handled it without full throttle ha still learning to limits of traction on this bike, didn’t want to dump it and lose the tail.

Neither of us were going 100% anyway.

Enjoyed sunset at the lake and rode home in the dark. Should hit 1,000 miles tomorrow :)

Bike just gets better and better (and I’m a major cruiser hater my whole life haha).

This thing has impressed me thus far.

    None... yet.
That is my nightmare scenario! Mechanical stuff I can wrap my head around. Electrical? Might as well be magic...

Interesting way to meet your neighbor though!
