Went out for a second time with my set up in the truck bed. Sadly the trip was cut short by one of the dogs puking all over the sleeping bag and the other dog; regardless, it was still a nice evening.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Too funny, the joys of camping!

One trip when I was 10 years old. Me, my brother, and mom and dad are squeezed in side by side in the back of our old 1950s Ford panel truck. Camping at Ross lake, Skagit valley. This was around 1967 or so. We had caught a dozen 2 - 5 pound rainbow trout that day. No room to put the food in the truck, so it stayed outside at night in the cooler. Black bear in the middle of the night raids the cooler. My dad wakes up, bolts outside and grabs the shovel. Yelling like a madman, he is chasing the bear through the woods after midnight, my mom chasing after him screaming at him to come back. He finally gave up the chase. The bear got only one trout, but one of the big ones. No big deal, caught more the next day.

    The joys of camping.

Had to sell my 17 Tacoma for a tow rig in order to pull my new home. Still here for a bit to keep in touch.
East side of Mt Hood Oregon. Somewhere up an unnamed trail. Didnt see another soul all day.

Took the wife and kids out this past weekend. Thanks to the asshole partiers and people with screaming babies, my wife said “Never again”.

Ouch, that hurts. I do not know what other opportunities you have where you live, but source out some remote areas. Do the research online. The ATV groups tend to know where the more remote private spots are, check their forums too.

That can happen at any popular location. I am fortunate in BC that there is endless wilderness. Several hundred trips, never see any other people but it does mean travelling a bit further, and some bad roads. The rewards are great though when you get some scenic spot to yourself.

Also, time your vacations and days off so you always camp on weekdays. Also avoid Mondays and Fridays. My wife and I have done this for 30 years. Camping on Tuesday to Thursday, back home on Friday. A lot of great trips. Also, instead of taking one or two week vacations, I often took a day or two off multiple times over the year so I could get in a lot of fishing trips. Last time I went offroad on a weekend was decades ago.

Like this spot I went to last week. On a weekday, it is one spot by a fishing lake. No one there. Good luck getting this type of spot on a weekend. I am back there tomorrow with my boat for just a day of fishing.

I got there Friday morning around 11am and pretty much had my pick.

As the evening progressed it did seem like more and more people rolled in but some of them must have been joining other campers. I packed up and left pretty early Saturday morning, exiting out the back and up to Lots A Lakes OHV, and there were still 5-6 open sites. I think there is something like 16 designated sites.

One more thing… there’s a sign at the trailhead saying the 4x4 camp is closed for the season. I don’t know if it’s from earlier this year or what, but you can safely ignore it as myself and everybody else did…

I have not cold weather camped.

I dig it. Tows great, pops up it in seconds. This is a 1999, I did a massive renovation on it this past year. I would recommend looking at getting a wind kit for them if yours does not have something from the manufacturer. I follow some pretty knowledgable groups on FB - just type in aliner campers or aframe campers and join the first couple big groups.

@RyanDCLB wicked jealous! I am jonesing for a pop up slide in. Would be too cramped and not ideal for family camping (spouse, German shepard mix & corgi/pitty mix). But would be great for storm chasing in ski season!

Here are couple more pictures for you to jones over. I found the camper in the local newspaper's classified section on Valentines day 2015. It replaced a SixPac hardsided camper that was super top heavy. I'll be camping in the Sierras this weekend, and plan on bringing the generator/inverter to run the A/C.
