I used the codes below and they appear to be the same. I saved the code it came per-programed with just in case and it was only for the Pan Temp. I wrote over an other function code that wasn't being used to get the converter temp. If I'm not mistaken it was a function code just above the pan temp code. It's been couple years or so since I messed with it.

Then you probably need to post in a thread dedicated to ScanGauge -- this thread is for UltraGauge. They are different products from different providers.

So which temp is used to make sure the trans is at the proper temp when doing the trans drail/refill? Trans Pan Temp or Trans TC Temp?

Pan. You’ll find that they run really close together though. My 07 would always check at 97-115°F. 0151CF4E-ADFE-4D1D-A078-01ECAF5CA2B0.jpg

It comes down to fluid breakdown related to temperature. Search out "Gearcruncher" posts on this. Generally speaking 170F is the ideal temp - does not degrade fluid but is hot enough to boil off condensation. Max temps will be seen in the torque converter. You should monitor both. TC temps can easily be 40F higher than the pan when the lugging the motor - which is really easy to do. Shifting to 4th will lock the tyranny at higher speeds prevent the TC from driving temps. I find that if I am on steeps or lugging the engine, choosing a gear that keeps the engine in the 2500 RPM range keeps the TC temp from running away. The pan is a bulk fluid measurement it lags the TC temp.

Unless you have some hell big added tranny cooler- I think your 100F measurements are very suspect at normal operating conditions. If real, those temps are actually too low and you should look to raise them.

This was while doing the temp check procedure to check the transmission fluid level. The engine gets up to temp much faster than atf does.
He asked about pan and tc temps in relation to doing the temp check procedure....

So to follow up 97-115°F is the correct temp range to check the trans fluid level from the overflow plug?

Yes. That was the case for my 07.

I know that the 5th gen 4runners with the A750e/f transmissions check between 104-113°F.

How did you get the at temp check light on and have the ultra gauge connected at the same time?

Jump the 2 pins and start temp check mode. After you get it into temp check mode you can remove the jumper wire and plug in the Ultragauge.
