Currently I have a 2018 Dodge Rebel 22K miles, I'm considered trading in on 2021 tacoma, with trade I can basically walk away with a even trade.

My questions are what packages do you recommend for a first time Toyota Buyer?

I've bulid my TRD sport with the following add-ons
    PACKAGES

Technology Package with options (question here is this a hard tonneau covers)

    ACCESSORIES
5-In. Oval Tube Steps - Black
All-Weather Floor Liners and Door Sill Protectors
    Bed Cleats
    Bed Lighting Kit
    Bed Mat

Interested in your thoughts. The dealership has offered me 41K for my Dodge Rebel.

    thanks for your insight.

If you are going to pull the trigger, look for your "must haves" and take or leave any of the port options that come on an allocated truck when you find one. If you wait for the perfect match, you'll more than likely be waiting until 2025. :) Get the truck that has the major stuff and add the rest yourself. Just my 2 cents.
and plus 1 on LED headlight package.

Can you be more specific on which Tech package? There are 3-4 for the Sport, and they have varying levels of nanny-features. My tech package had Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning, LED Headlights, and the other Tech package bling. It did not have the Blind Spot monitor or rear backup assistance (looks to the sides to see pedestrians/cars approaching). Some tech packages are only available with the AT or Double Cab.

There's a tech package at each level that has the hard tonneau cover, as well.

I'm assuming your local dealer actually has some (or at least one) on the lot? Selection is pretty thin right now.

If he's not a picky SOB like I was, and the dealer is willing to have something brought in that's already built, it's likely that he can get a Sport in whatever tech package he wants, provided it's a DCSB AT.

Aftermarket tonneaus are better than the factory one and don't require modified bedrails. The Bakflip or Extang Solid Fold seem to be the most popular. I have the Extang, and it's been a rock star for the last 5 1/2 years.

You can get the exact same tube steps from Autoanything for half the price.

Go "floor mat delete" and spend the same money on either Weathertechs or Husky Weatherbeaters (my favorite).

Make sure you have the Blind Spot Monitoring in your tech package. It's saved me on several occasions from banging into the occastional Fiat 500 or Honda Fit hiding in my blind spot.

Good choice on the bed mat. Toyota has the best price on that.

You can also get the door sill protectors cheaper on the outside if they aren't already installed. I got mine for about half of what Toyota charges.

If you have a choice between DCSB and DCLB, go long bed. It's nice to be able to have that extra 12" when you need them.

I would recommend the LED headlights if you can get them. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade. The other options would be things like the Premium package, but that would depend on whether or not you wanted leather seats, moonroof, JBL audio, etc. The Tech package with blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert is another good option. It's very helpful when you have a bus sized SUV parked next to you and you're trying to back out of a space with people driving through the parking lot like maniacs.

Not sure if anything has changed with the tonneau, but my 2020 came with the factory hard tonneau cover. If it's a factory installed option, I would think it's the hard cover.

Thanks for all your inputs! The tech package is the one with LED lights and all the blind spot monitoring. I’ll play around a little more, sadly the dealer doesn’t have any in stock so I’ll be waiting, but my quote on the trade in good for 7 days so I can order what I want now and they will honor the trade in value. I just like the thought of going from a 2018 to a 2021 for basically nothing outta pocket.

Where I live, you walk out of your house in the morning and you can feel your ass turn to swamp before you even get to your car. By the end of the day, you don't so much wear your clothing, as swim in it.

Fuck that sounds horrible. I was working in the Cayman islands a long time ago, could easily choke down half a gallon of water in 3-4 hours. So miserable!

Regarding your listed accessories, first, note that the truck comes standard with 4 bed cleats. You probably won't need any more.

As to the rest of your items, they're much cheaper if you buy them as parts (from online Toyota dealers) and install them yourself. (Installation is a no-brainer.) The only exception might be the bed lighting kit, if you're getting an Access Cab. That's because the Access Cab doesn't come with the dash switch, and getting the switch effectively doubles the price of the installation. In that situation only, having the bed lights port-installed might be competitive.

As a general comment, this is a bad time to make a trade, because of the topsy-turvy situation in the automotive market. Yes, the dealer will offer you more for your trade-in, but he'll also charge you more for the new truck. If it were me, I'd wait a while until things settled down a bit.
