Generally speaking the limiting factor in a stock length setup is the shock itself.

The limiting factor on the JD kit would vary depending on the setup & size of the kit. On my 2.25" the limiting factory is the CV axle (not 934s) followed by the upper ball joint.

You're running a 2.25" kit, yeah? What's your shock extended length from eye to eye at full droop?

I’ll have to check tomorrow for you but it’s pretty much whatever the extended length of the coilover is since it’s 99% of the way extended. I marked the shaft with a sharpie at full extension and where I have it strapped, you can still see a sliver of that sharpie mark. I based my strap placement off of upper bj

I really don’t have much desire to either. I don’t enjoy the work as much as I used to. Even this LT install isn’t very fun and it’s only a few days of work. I just want the finished product so I push on through.

Did you account for the amount of stretch in the limit strap once you added the spring force and tire? I had to do this a couple of times to get to a point where I felt comfortable. Again, you have to keep in mind that my limiting factor and main concern with the limit strap is the CV going into bind. Could be a bad trail day if I mess that up. :anonymous:

No rush, I'm more curious for the sake of the conversation.

Being 99% extended and still having a little safety cushion on the upper bj, it seems to me like the coilover and limit strap will work in tandem once I hit full droop and there shouldn’t be any binding anywhere. Since the coilover will be fully extended, there’s no worry of extending past that, similar to an oem setup.

That’s my thought on it anyways, I could be off base.

edit: which could be less than ideal in a go fast situation since you want solid safety cushions and straps to take all of the force since there’s a lot of force at play. But seeing as I crawl, I don’t see an issue.

No, sounds about right. You’ve got a safety net either by the shock or the upper ball joint even if the strap isn’t 100% where it needs to be. The benefits of running the 934s

Doesn’t Fox have some sort of built in bump or limit stop? Not sure if it’s fully extended or compressed though. Cheap insurance to strap it I suppose, just looking for every bit of droop I can get.

Fox has an internal rubber bump on the bearing housing to "cushion" the top out forces during full extension. It's not an ideal limiting factor, but the shock will handle the load. Pretty sure some Kings (OE replacement) do too but not 100% sure on their universal fitment shocks.

The only stop for both companies on the compressed is the rubber bumper on the shaft. Really only a last resort bumper but it is there as a safety cushion.

That said, yes. It's cheaper insurance to use a limit strap. I guess it really depends on application...

Yo! The shipping address definitely threw me off too. They did indeed come from Colorado when I thought they'd come from Temecula, CA like my bumps did. I also gotta admit that I kind of expected something a little different. The shock pics on the site shows off some fins and a cool Locked logo as well as different looking adjusters. As for my set, I actually did order COs - just haven't bought springs yet, so my top mount is how it should be for what I'm going for. I guess I'm ok with everything as long as it functions right. Some communication as to the changes would have definitely been appreciated. I would have still totally been like, "I understand! Let's go through with it cuz I've seen good stuff so far." In the end if I'm not happy, I'm above my pride and can say I gotta buy a set from another manufacturer who will gladly take my money. But until and if then comes, I'm gonna find out how this ride goes! Here's to mobbin' dat rear, my man!

Your shocks were made by Carbon (https://www.carbonshocks.com/) here in CO. They are partnered with Locked some how.

The knock off resi is for sure a china made thing by the look and cost of them.

She’s finally getting there. Decided to be lazy and not move the upper limit mount. I did place the other side correctly though.

Yeah, if your coilovers will do the job in the meantime while you wait on the fulfillment of another name brand, then good deal. You'll be able to enjoy the truck much earlier. My issue is that external thread body cap on the smoothies is going to cause clearance issues with my relocation towers under articulation. That and the 90 degree fitting throws the hose right into my bumpstop mount. So I'm not going to use these. Riley wrote back today and said that orders are taking longer to process because they just transitioned to the new design of the shocks. Clearly made by Carbon as stated by @TMFF below.

I'm respectively asking for a refund in my reply as we speak since what I got is so much different from what I ordered. The only spec that is as I ordered it, is the collapsed and extended length. Just a very odd experience so far. I detailed all the specs with Riley before ordering and he confirmed that how they appeared on the website is how they were to ship. Furthermore, the website still has the old style and states the finned reservoirs and single adjuster.

    https://lockedoffroad.com/2-5-smooth-body-shocks/

@BEAR_KNIFE_FIGHT I think I'm going to be canceling my order for C/Os. Carbon shocks probably aren't bad and may work for my kit as long as they got my rod-end specs right. But I'm pretty sketched out by how different my shocks came.
