If you are doing DoorDash, Uber Eats and the like.....It might be beneficial to rent a bottom end econo-box on the days you work.

Cut the mileage, wear, maintenance on your personal ride.

Whenever a vehicle registered in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania gets inspected, it is logged into that vehicle's Carfax report, even if it fails; My truck's Carfax report is basically a timeline of how many miles I've put on my truck in the nearly 12 years I've owned it, and it varies greatly (My truck's inspection stickers both expire at the end of October every year and it has never failed emissions or safety; I am allowed to get it inspected up to two months prior to expiration, which I have done before)…

    October 7th, 2010: 7,414 miles

    August 31st, 2011: 13,130 miles

    October 26th, 2012: 21,934 miles

    October 31st, 2013: 32,243 miles

    September 10th, 2014: 40,150 miles

    October 20th, 2015: 53,812 miles

    October 11th, 2016: 67,038 miles

    October 17th, 2017: 77,719 miles

    October 2nd, 2018: 88,351 miles

    September 6th, 2019: 106,712 miles

    August 17th, 2020: 116,279 miles

That was an extraordinary situation; DoorDash is really more of a side hustle, but things are always slow at my place of employment in the winter months and COVID doesn't help. I was out of work for an entire week in April 2021 due to a COVID outbreak at work (I didn't get it), and I needed to make money, so I probably put 300-500 miles on my truck in that week alone making DoorDash deliveries. Now that things are picking up again and my weekends are mostly spent at car shows, I don't need to do DoorDash as much. My mom also lets me use her 2013 Nissan Murano (which only has like 40K miles on it) for DoorDash when I need to; As for renting a car there is a shortage right now, daily rates are insane, and I don't went to spent that kind of money to rent a stinking Ford Focus or Chevy Cruze for a day!

I just like to cover all the bases, and I was also a bit worried because I can't see what's going inside the engine...

And your daughter's Yaris is pushing 150K already? Does it burn any oil?

Nope. In fact, she took it on a 500 mile trip recently and not a drop was used.

I bought it used so I can't completely say what was used in it prior to us owning it....although CarFax showed several dealership services over the years. So my guess would be Valvoline 0w20 synthetic or 5w30 conventional....as that's the brand in most bulk tanks around here (Valvoline is headquartered here so lots of shops use them).

Officially the car came from the factory with 5w30 conventional. The 1st 3 years that we had it I used M1 High Mileage 5w30. But lately I've used Valvoline Maxlife HM synthetic 5w30. I've been slowly gravitating to all Valvoline products for some time now. No real reason. Just really good products and easily found and often times on sale.

Did a valve cover gasket change on the Yaris 3 weeks ago and found zero sludge or varnish in the valvetrain or backside of the cover. Spotless.

I would use M1 HM or Valvoline Maxlife synthetic without hesitation.

How often should that be replaced?

    Excellent advice.

If it were my rig, I would step up to a 5w or 10w30 High Mileage formula, change it every 5k miles and have a weekly check and add if necessary....then enjoy life.

If you're talking about the valve cover gasket....there isn't a set time. Replace as needed. I replaced it because I recently did a spark plug change and found a bit of oil in one of the plug wells....indicating a failing plug well o-ring. The cover gasket itself was not leaking.

Through a new Fel-Pro kit on it. Problem solved.

I just looked up the KV number on M1 HM 10w30. It's a 12. Nice heavy 30 weight.

One thing I don't like about M1 is they don't always list the HTHS number (high temp/high sheer). That's as important as anything. Some say to be a decent oil it needs to be a minimum of 2.6....others say over 3.0. The Valvoline Maxlife synthetic 10w30 I'm going to use scores a 3.3. High HTHS numbers are good for engines with timing chains....though most Toyota engines are pretty easy on oil anyway.
