The BBB doesn't really have a say in getting you money back. They're just an organization with slightly more clout than Yelp. I'd definitely file a claim with them, but more than likely this business doesn't really care what "grade" they get from BBB.

You can also contact the local business licensing office and ask if there is any recourse through them, as they DO have control over if that business gets to stay open. There's also just small claims court. I would look into that as well, and definitely have a written copy of their warranty and any claims they make as far as what has been done to the motor before they sold it to you, and even take the motor to an independent shop and have them diagnose the problem.

Never buy an engine from an aftermarket parts store that doesn't warranty the engine themselves if the rebuilder won't.

Yes , please keep us posted on future events. We're all rooting for you. It's a shame that people like that are even allowed to stay in business.

Looks like this company operates under a bunch of aliases and has been sued by the state of Wisconsin.

Crazy that it's taken 4 years for the case to work its way through the legal system. Here is the original complaint from the state:

Low mile junkyard engine. Got a 4.0 with 3k miles for $2700 from a small shop that only buys wrecked Toyotas to sell what’s un damaged on them

Yikes, this hits home as I had a very similar experience with a different shop. Paid $5100 for a reman motor and clutch job.

Had 12000 mile or 1 year warranty, whichever came first. put 13000 on it in 5 months, head gasket blew. Told me too bad, out of warranty. It was the biggest waste of my hard earned money I've ever experienced. I would do JDM in the future. This expense is the reason i will never sell my truck. By the way, the shop was "motor machine an supply" in san diego.
