The dealer can do them but it’s easier to do them yourself. There’s a TSB update thread linked in the first post with all the info you need

    Neither! :D

The most frustration free is doing it yourself. Just follow the 1st Post in the ECU Update thread.

Once I unlock my ECU, can I flash different tunes without incurring additional costs? I'd like to be able to experiment with the established tunes.

    Yes.

Once an VIN is Unlocked, it is permanent and flashable for anyone with vF.

Once an ECU ID is Unlocked, it is permanent on your Master Key for viewing and editing.

I added the vF Credit notes to the 3rd Post.

Thanks. Picking up a 2021 as soon as it gets off the train next week. This will be the first upgrade. Downloading and reading everything prior to then.

You're welcome! Enjoy the new Taco!

I've flashed a bunch of 2020s on the latest ECU ID and a few 2021s. They still need the tune to feel normal.

2020 MT checking in. Without the ADM mod and tune I would likely be selling my truck. It's so much more enjoyable to drive with these things.

It is amazing how many people have sold because of the shitty tune. And, it is amazing that Toyota hasn't made more of an effort to make it right.

I'm glad that you are enjoying the ADM.

First - thanks for all the amazing input. Been following for a while and finally jumped in a bought the VF package. I have loaded the software, and am ready to hook up to the vehicle and press "prepare" (not "read") to hopefully find my TSB so I can send it off and get my tune.

So, dumb question, I have a 2021 AT Tacoma. Is there even a tune for this yet? I'm assuming the latest TSB for this is 04C20 . . . is that right?

    Thanks!

Yup should be 04C20. There are tunes available for it.

I have a 2021 as well (04C20). Ordered the VF tuner package the day my truck showed up knowing how crappy the shift patterns were in my last 3rd gen I stupidly sold. The process from ordering to applying the tune sure took a while but was worth it.

Installed the premium stock tune and am incredibly pleased with it so far.

No TSB’s yet. Actually if it did require a TSB update, I don’t currently have the capability to do it myself. Need to figure that out since my coworkers with older 3rd gens are now asking how to get this done.

You totally have the capability. You just need TechStream. See the 1st Post of the ECU Update thread.

04C21 is shipping from the factory. It may be a while until that TSB is released though.

I assume that clearing the learning values (Reset ECU) is performed at the end, but before turning off the truck and restarting? Calibrate ECU & then Reset ECU?

    No.

You MUST cycle the ignition after immediately after the tune flash.

LV Resets are optional and tertiary to everything else.

OK, now I'm confused. So leave it plugged in, restart the truck, and then?? Sorry, the reset function timing isn't clear in the first post.
