Looking for an all in 1 Head Unit

I have a 2011 PreRunner with the JBL package. I am looking to replace the unit with a touch screen unit. But I want it to have everything. i.e. Bluetooth, GPS, HD Radio, and I would like to hookup my backup camera to it.

Has anyone come across a unit like this?

 

Kenwood Excelon DNX9960 is the one I am looking at. This will do everything you want. Just got a price on this with everything that is needed to hook it up, $2200. This includes: In-dash Receiver Kit, steering wheel input, harness and Ipod interface.

Why I really like this over the Pioneer is that you can use the navi while the truck is in motion. From what I hear you can not input destination into the Pioneer if the truck is moving, internal gyroscope from what a dealer told me.

Still doing my research so let me know what you go with.

What type of mods did you perform to get that capability? It was my understanding that it is illegal for any manufacturer to sell a DVD or nav unit with all functions useable while moving. At least that has been my experience in the past.

 

the kenwoods are the best out, as far as ive seen lately. theres plenty of tricks that you can do to almost any head unit so that you can use the functions while moving, but the kenwoods are still great. they have the least problematic bluetooth, GPS, and they have user friendly firmware updates that you can get off their site. ask pioneer to release a solid firmware update for any of their decks. goooood luck with that one.

 

This and the Sony XNV-770BT or XNV 660 BT. Kenwood gps is powered by Garmin, and the Sony by Tom Tom. All the other all-in-one's out there have white label gps with inferior guidance and lousy poi databases. IF nav is not so important to you, cnet rates the Pioneer flagship the highest (although user ratings are much lower due to the gps issue I mentioned).

By the way, you can get the Kenwood on ebay for a grand, and the Sony XNV-770 BT for $810.00. If you install yourself it will be under a grand total for the Sony.

 

I got my DNX9960 for $1300 installed from an authorised dealer. Anything more than that is too much. Since Kenwood announced the DNX9980 (which only adds Pandora control and built in HD tuner over the 9960) expect prices on the 9960 to drop sharply in the coming weeks. I expect sub $1000 units to be available within 3-6 weeks.

 

I just installed a factory refurbished Kenwood DNX 6960 that I picked up from Amazon for about $720. The 6960 has everything you list expect for HD radio which requires an add on. It's a nice unit and hell, I didn't even know the thing had blue-tooth until I went to install it. It wasn't one of my requirements for a unit (my main requirement is an actual volume knob instead of a touch screen only volume control) and I guess I overlooked that while researching it, nice surprise though.

Before this recent upgrade I had a Kenwood DNX 5120 installed. It's lacking HD radio and Blue-tooth but has the Garmin GPS and backup camera hook up. I picked it up for around $400 in summer '09, also as a factory refurbish.

Kenwood all the way and don't count out factory refurbs, save yourself a few hundred bucks.

 

Though the 6960 has bluetooth phone it does not do stereo bluetooth streaming of audio from your phone to your headunit (A2DP)... the 9960 does. That alone was worth the price increase to me as I use bluetooth streaming for most of my listening needs.

Be sure of what you want or need and dont just get something because it does "bluetooth" as it may not have all the features you want.

 

Do all of these HU's referenced work with the factory bluetooth?

They have their own proprietary Bluetooth. None use the factory Bluetooth. Kenwood uses Parrot, the maker of Bluetooth.

 

Word of advice on the Pioneer 920BT. A lot of people love it, and it puts out great sound. However, the Bluetooth is worthless. You will find tons of forums discussing how you sound like you're in a wind tunnel even when not driving. People have tried all sorts of things to fix it, but nothing works.

Also, the Sirius preset screen does not allow you to label your preset buttons. You just have to remember which station you programed. That kinda sucks.

I'm taking my Pioneer out next week after struggling for 2 months.

Going with Kenwood.
