It looks like the back of the bracket is open so I presuming the nut is gone and the other is stripped out. If correct take a punch and knock the remaining stripped nut out. Get a pair of grip nuts and grade bolts and install a new stand. As you tighten down on the grip nuts they will grab and not need a back up wrench. If you ever have to remove you will have to break off the bolt with an impact wrench.

Definitely need a replacement kick stand as yours looks bent. How thick is that plate? Looks to be about 1/4 inch give or take. I'd grind the paint off it and get another piece of mild steel plate about the same thickness and weld it over top that one then just drill and tap it for your mounting bolts.. it'll change your lean angle when on the stand a little but should be okay.

Those grip nuts look interesting as well. Never saw those before.

Interesting ride home from work this afternoon. Rode my Buell to work for the first time in ages. Heading home I'm coming up a slight hill to a stop sign following an older Chevy Cavalier and a van. Pickup truck pulling a car trailer loaded with a bunch of those big round hay bales makes a right turn onto the road I'm on. As the trailer enters the turn 3 of 4 hay bales on the left side of the trailer come off! Thankfully he's going slow and one wobbles off the side harmlessly. It's like slow motion and I try to move closer to the shoulder and hopefully out of harm's way as I knock it up into neutral just in case. Bale two bumps my front tire and I shake just a little. Bale three glances off the left side of my bike and shakes me pretty good as the truck and trailer roll past me.

Lady in the Cavalier jump out and run back to check on me and make sure I'm okay. I'm kind of stunned and I put the kick stand down, shut off ignition and hop off. I glance over my bike and see my left rear turn signal broken and hanging by one wire. Car behind me pulls up to tell me the truck has stopped a little further down the road. I hop back on, fire it up and head back the way I'd just come from pissed off to no end. Coming up behind the truck and trailer he's driving slowly and I'm blowing my horn and flashing my high beam to get him to pull over. About 1/2 mile later there's an open area trucks use to turn around and he pulls in.

Young guy, maybe 20 years old gets out. "If you're trying to tell me some fell off I already know". I just looked at him as I try to calm myself and then point to the broken turn signal. "Actually I wanted to get your insurance info because two of your bales f'n hit me. One broke my turn signal and your half asset tie down job could have gotten me killed." Needless to say his demeanor changed. Another pickup pulls in and it's this kids grandfather. He's cool and understands just how piss ed off I am. He makes junior call his dad and get him here ASAP. It takes less than 5 minutes and dad rolls in as grandpa heads back up the road to see if he can get their hay bales out of the way and somewhere they can be recovered.

Dad checks on me first and looks at the bike. By now I've calmed down a lot and we look over the bike shocked that the entire amount of damage is one measly turn signal. No paint is even scratched and if not for some stray pieces of hay stuck in my shifter and the stub of turn signal stalk you wouldn't even know it had hit me. Dad gives me his info and I'm going to get replacement turn signals and give him the bill. I suggest rather strongly that tying down 4 round hay bales with just one tie down strap is beyond stupid it's bordering on criminal and dad sees my point. When I left the kid was still having his ass chewed.

Glad you are okay and it was only a turn signal!

Man I'm glad you're OK. That could have turned out much, much worse!

Sad story, he was real young.

I'll be riding through that area tomorrow. Doing about 6 or 7 hours and 350 miles tomorrow to head to my parent's for my niece's graduation party Saturday. Then the same trip home Sunday. Almost going the entire width of Washington. First long trip on the bike in a couple years, and I'm excited. Put on my larger front sprocket today and cleaned/adjusted the chain with it. Checked my fluids, tools are packed, bags are on. Only regret right now is not buying a tank bag. Just sitting here thinking how convenient those are for little things on long trips. Oh well. Next one.

Finally got around to cleaning the bike after the trip. Removed the rear grab handle and got it registered today.

Best tank bag recommendations? Could use a place to rest my chest on long rides and drink some water from/store my gloves/glasses when off bike, etc.

Not bad, if you could get it for $3k or less it would be a good deal. I like the S model more, but the naked model with a gsxr front end looks so nice!

Like you I’m riding a cruiser style that carves. For 7 years I’ve run soft bags. I do a lot of miles and want tools. Water. Never found a tank bag that wouldn’t look really out of place - they’re mostly oriented towards the adv or sport crowd - which makes sense. Came across this and for the stupid low price thought it was worth a try. I use rok straps to back up the magnets. Don’t know how I lived without a tank bag now. Tool roll. Bottle of water. Will pop off when I’m leaving it in a sketchy area. Gets pretty big. Collapses well (air release valve) water proof. Kind of muted appearance. No neon. And not so structured that it maintains a massive profile even when empty.

Still run soft bags for touring trips but that’s it.
