Headlights/fog lights. Straight pipe exhaust? Hopefully more mods to come
Okay so my girlfriend surprised me with tickets to a music festival in salt like city Utah! I live in Chattanooga TN and it’s a 1 day and 2 hour drive. Around 4,000 miles there and back.

I have an 06 DCSB pre runner with 222,000 miles and I have never have a single issue out of the truck. Everything it in works fine and I have just put in an K&N engine filter and replaced the cabin. Changed the oil and filter about a month ago. All tires have good tread although one has a plug in it. I will get them rotated before the trip but what else should I do in preparation for a road trip of this length?

Plugs? Injectors? Change the oil before the trip? My dad bought the truck new in 06 and babied it to death and now I have it. Aside from cosmetic changes I have taken good care of it as well. I will admit I drive it like a bat out of hell and do have a bit of a lead foot when on the highway but I feel like it could handle the trip and I’m just wanting input on anything else you guys would do before such a trip. Thanks!

A good spare tire, preferably one mounted on a wheel that matches the tuck.

Fresh oil and filter, double check all your fluid levels. I drive a few times per year from northern MI to VT in my '05 with 223k miles and it does great!

Drive it out to Texas, I'll look it over for you. :D

How old are the hoses and belts? Just a good inspection, do not trust the local jiffy lube, look and photograph.

How's the AC Weather report for Utah. 111F this week!

    Have fun at the concert!

My 2007 has 215,000 on it. I'd make that trip with mine if I had no other options. But I have 2 other, newer vehicles in the driveway that I'd take.

I too would highly recommend inspecting the accessory belt. Do you know when you changed it last? My general policy is I change the belt with a fresh one, and then I keep the previous belt behind the seats. It takes up almost no space and in a pinch, when you REALLY need it, that belt will save the day. Remember, your truck can be in PERFECT condition but without an accessory belt, you're going nowhere.

One other thing to bring with you on the trip would be a jerry can for gas. When I drive cross country I always keep one with me. There are long stretches of mileage out there that don't have many gas stations and due to the pandemic, there are a bunch of places that have closed. So keeping an extra 5 gallons with you could really come in handy.

Road trip! Oil change, grease driveshaft, check that coolant is full. I do like the suggestion to put a new serpentine belt on. Have fun.

Hoses and belts are great! I stay away from jiffy lubes and quick places unless I need air in a tire lol. everything looks good so I’ll Drain fluids and replace them all!

Besides the spare tire filled with air make sure to have the tools to do a tire change.
Check that the lug wrench fits all the lugnuts.

stop and take a break every 4-6 hours, hit a rest area or gas station. just walk around for 5 minutes, get a drink and a snack, your body will thank you for it.

Very good ideas so far. Keep spare fluids with (antifreeze etc) if you don't already have.

    What show?
